Vampire Diaries EP Reveals What's to Come in the Second Half of Season 4

The Vampire Diaries executive producer Julie Plec talked to Hollywood.com about what viewers can expect to see when the series returns January 17th. When we left off, Klaus had just murdered 12 of his hybrids, as well as Carol Lockwood. Stefan just learned about Damon and Elena's sexual relationship. Damon released Elena in an effort to do right by her, while he stayed behind at the lake house to help Jeremy complete his hunter's mark. During the winter hiatus many have been speculating what's next.

Here's what Julie revealed:

Tyler, Caroline, and Klaus
  • In regards to Tyler's state of mind, Ty will be devastated, and not in a very good place. Luckily, he and Caroline mended their relationship before everything fell apart, so he'll have a shoulder to cry on. As for Tyler and Klaus, Julie replied "Oh yeah, for sure. He's if anything reeling and looking over his shoulder wondering if Klaus is there to chop his head off. Also, I'm sure [he's] trying to figure out if there's any move he can make or anything he can do to regain the upper hand against Klaus, although it looks pretty bleak. It's not without its solutions, but it ain't pretty."
Caroline, Stefan, and Elena
  • One of the things that has seemingly divided the fandom was Caroline revealing the nature of Damon and Elena's relationship to Stefan after Elena asked her not to. While this will bring Stefan and Caroline closer together solidifying their friendship, it will also begin to sever the tie between Caroline and Elena now that Caroline has chosen a side in the break-up. Julie revealed:
"I think that for Caroline, she perceives that Elena is being victimized, and she has every right to believe that -- of course, Elena herself doesn't believe that. But Caroline's point of view is what it is, borne out of her own experience and her own point of view and opinion about Damon. So for her, what's going on between Elena and Damon is just not acceptable, and the idea that Stefan is standing there talking about trust and family and honesty, it's heartbreaking to see Stefan, her friend, being lied to and being betrayed and involved in a situation that Caroline really, genuinely believes is not okay. I think that will serve to bring Caroline and Stefan's friendship closer, but also put a little bit of a block between Caroline and Elena's friendship. It will not be so extreme right away, but it's definitely a chip in the armor of their girl bond."

Stefan, Elena, and Damon

  • Now that Stefan knows the truth, one of fan's burning questions will be how the younger Salvatore will handle it. All season long he's been fighting his Ripper urges, and it appears this is the one thing that may send him spiraling out of control. Plec confesses, "Stefan is going through a million emotions. First and foremost is he feels his brother lied to him. Second, of course, is jealousy, as would be the honest reaction of anybody who found out the former love of their life had slept with their brother. Third, I think, is just a colossal disappointment in both of them for doing this and not being honest about it. With Stefan there's always this inherent volatility that lurks underneath his calm demeanor that risks him spiraling. And I think there's a slight danger to him that his spiral might go too far and he's going to have to figure out how to keep himself together."
Besides all the soapy goodness of the various triangles this season, the Originals, and April will also be players when the series returns in 2013. Click here to read the complete article.

The Vampire Diaries Episode (4x10) Synopsis - "After School Special"

Even though the next new episode of The Vampire Diaries won't air until the new year, the CW has just released the synopsis for episode 410 titled, "After School Special." Highlight to reveal!

REBEKAH IS BACK WITH A VENGEANCE — Appearing unexpectedly at Mystic Falls High, Rebekah (Claire Holt) wastes no time trying to force Stefan (Paul Wesley), Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Caroline (Candice Accola) to answer her questions about the search for a cure, leading to a bombshell piece of information from Elena. When Bonnie’s (Kat Graham) father, Rudy Owens (guest star Rick Worthy, “Supernatural”), accepts the role of Interim Mayor, he makes it a priority to protect his daughter, who isn’t at all comfortable with the role he suddenly wants to play in her life. Professor Shane (guest star David Alpay) continues to encourage Bonnie to believe in her powers, but he soon finds himself in danger when he reveals too much to the wrong person. Later, Caroline does her best to comfort Tyler (Michael Trevino) after a violent confrontation. Meanwhile, at the lake house, Damon and Matt (Zach Roerig) train Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen), trying to raise his game as a hunter, but Klaus (Joseph Morgan) is impatient with their progress and intervenes to speed up the process. David Von Ancken directed the episode written by Brett Matthews (#410).(/span>

The Vampire Diaries Episode 4x09 Review - "O Come, All Ye Faithful"

Courtesy of Ian Smolderholic

Previously on The Vampire Diaries...
  • Elena is sired to Damon, but can now drink Capri Suns O'Blood.
  • Salvatore Road Trip.
  • Hayley betrayed Tyler for her Zombie parents.
  • Tyler is Alpha dog now. Can't wait to see what Klaus thinks of this.
  • Elena shocked Caroline and Bonnie with her true (sex) confession.
  • Flashback Lexi and wigs.

While Tyler and his hybrid posse plotted Klaus' demise, Caroline and Stefan tried to thwart the gang's plan in all things 'Save Elena.' Meanwhile, Bonnie, Shane, Damon, and Elena were up at the Gilbert cabin to attempt to "cure" Jeremy of his homicidal tendencies towards Elena. Basically, everything was about saving Elena is some capacity. For everyone except Tyler's crew. They didn't really give a shit.

"I thought Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves..."
Stefan deluded himself into believing Damon had followed through with his plan to release Elena from her sire bond, and bought the lies both of them were selling him. To their credit (Damon's at least) they weren't trying to hurt him. Elena was still trying to prove her love to Damon, and I guess didn't want an angry Stefan getting in the way. Damon, on the other hand, felt guilty. Guilty he didn't follow through. Guilty he didn't kick Elena out the house (and his bed). Guilty he lied to his brother about Elena's whereabouts so Stefan wouldn't know the two were spending the weekend together at the cabin. Stefan was happy to live in this delusion until Caroline pulled him into action.

"Here to steal Tiny Tim's crutches?"
Tyler wanted to use Caroline's feminine wiles to distract Klaus while they put their plan into action. So of course this meant Tyler had to tell her EVERYTHING. Which she immediately turned around to tell Stefan. Now that Caroline knows about Elena and Damon's carnal relations, she's afraid her ex will use the sire bond to (continue) to take advantage of poor, defenseless Elena. Damon hasn't done this, but that's how Caroline sees it, so they must get the cure no matter what.

Things go as you would expect. Stefan and Tyler butt heads. Caroline looks like a traitor. Then guess what? Damon has a solution to all their problems. Shane confesses to Damon he actually knows where the curse is, so they don't need the sword to read the map. This puts the Klaus plot back in motion. Until Hayley tells him. She needs Klaus alive for their plan, and can't allow him to be taken out. Something she confesses to Tyler just as Klaus is killing all his hybrid defectors. Hayley may have spared Tyler as the 12th sacrificial hybrid, but Klaus hasn't. In the end, Klaus decides the best revenge is to take the one thing Tyler has left. His mom. RIP Carol Lockwood.

This episode was confusing as hell. So confusing, I'm still digesting it. What I do know is Klaus should be allowed to travel between networks slaying folks to Christmas music. He's been a pony drawing , toothless vamp for so long, I forgot he also had claws. You, sir, may hold Katherine's BAMF trophy until she gets back. The other things I loved about this episode was Bonnie and Jeremy reconnecting, Damon choosing Stefan over Elena (for the time being), and snarky Stefan.

Bonnie and Jeremy had such a brief, and heartbreaking end that it was nice to see there was still love and respect there. Enough to get Jeremy to hand over his stake to Damon, and not in his sister's heart. I hope we see more of this. Too bad we didn't see what they were getting on off camera.

"You can't keep telling me this isn't real."
In episode 4x08, Elena asked Damon to hold off on releasing her because what she feels for him isn't wrong. He listened, because he woke up (fully clothed) next to her in his bed. At one point it looked like he might cave in and sex her up, but then Cockblock Bonnie called. The whole time at the cabin when Elena would try to spend time with him, Damon kept pulling away. For one, he didn't like lying to his brother, and he also didn't like Elena's comment that she wasn't sure if the sire bond made her happy to spending time at the cabin with him. I truly think she was asking because she didn't know, but  that just creeped out an already creeped out Damon. The whole episode all he could think about was his brother, and it was for Stefan (and Elena, of course) that he finally released her. Too bad Caroline spilled the beans that Damon and Elena have been together-together.

Even though I'm a Damon fan, I'm also a Stefan fan. Especially when he's Snarky Stefan. This guy is a lot of fun, and surprisingly gets things done. When it's not about Elena, anyway. Something about even saying her name weakens him. What I loved most about Stef this week was him asking "What makes any of us any better than Klaus?" All season long the gang have been treating death and murder like first choice options, and anyone who's not part of the circle is expendable. It was nice to see them question this logic.

The Vampire Diaries won't be back until Thursday, January 17, 2013, so this gives us all plenty of times to take another look at all the Shane scenes. Was it just me, or did his Silas story change? Hmm... Glad Damon called him out on his B.S. Right now, he seems to be the only one paying attention. I just hope he and Stefan can get their Salvatore Smackdown over Elena's gold-plated vagina out the way so they can activate their Wonder Twin powers to take down the bad guy. Until next time...

Happy Holidays!

"Can You Feel This?" : "The Vampire Diaries (4x08) Review - "We'll Always Have Bourbon Street"

Previously on The Vampire Diaries...
  • DAMON AND ELENA DO THE NASTY! THAT IS ALL! (Just kidding)
  • Stefan went psycho, but was hot doing it.
  • Jeremy went psycho, and was hot doing it.
  • Hotties in suits.
  • Klauroline
  • Evil Prof. Silas Shane
  • Jeremy wants Elena dead.
  • Hayley is conspiring with Prof. Shane.
  • DAMON AND ELENA DO THE NASTY!
  • Caroline and Stefan think Elena is sired to Damon. Boo!

This week on The Vampire Diaries Damon and Elena both learn of the sire bond between them, and each have different view points on the subject. It turns out Damon has previous experience on the subject, and believes he knows of a solution. Elena's thoughts veer in a completely different direction than I had anticipated after last week's episode.

After Stefan breaks the news to Damon, Damon heads to the school to see if he can make Elena drink from a blood bag. The bet he made with Stefan was contingent on whether or not it would work. If it worked: Elena is sired to Damon. Something Stefan was hoping for since he was under the assumption is would mean her feelings for Damon might not be real. If it didn't work: Stefan would apologize, and bow out gracefully. It worked.

Back in the 1940's, Damon turned a woman named Charlotte. She was a girl he had a fling with that had fallen in love with him, and begged him to turn her, which he did. Due to her vamp-enhanced feelings, and sire bond, Charlotte became obsessed with Damon to the point he ended up leaving her. But not before he actually did visit a witch to attempt to free her from her bonds. Damon even went so far as to sacrifice 12 innocent people as an ingredient in the spell which turned out to be a lie. The witch he visited used him to tap into the darkest kind of magic. Something we later learn Shane has been using Bonnie for unbeknownst to her.

What I loved about this flashback episode was that despite the fact the Salvatore brothers hadn't seen each other since 1912, all it took was an apology and a drink to put them back on the same team. This to me goes to show that the epic love story of TVD isn't Stelena or Delena, but that between Stefan and Damon. No matter what happens between them, they always seem to find their way back to each other.

In 1912, Stefan was the one with the grudge against Damon whom he blamed for turning him into a Ripper. Now in present day he's angry his girlfriend threw him over for his brother. As he told Damon when asked if it was too hard to believe Elena could actually have feelings for the elder Salvatore, "No, I just can't believe she'd actually believe you're the one that's better for her."

Another thing I loved about this episode was how both brothers can empathize with each other's situation. They've been down the road of hating each other over a woman, and it seems this time around they're both willing to make better choices in order to maintain their relationship.

While the boys were "brother bonding," Elena decides to have a slumber party at the boarding house with Caroline and Bonnie. It starts out pretty fun with dancing and under aged drinking, but then their buzz begins to wear off. While Bonnie is just enjoying spending time with her girls, Caroline is noticing how comfortable Elena seems to be in the boys' home. Especially the Damon section.

When the girls end up in Damon's fantastic bathroom, things get kind of catty. Caroline begins making comments about Damon's promiscuity. Something Elena takes offense to given the fact she was his latest conquest, and is quick to point out how Caroline slept with him the first night she met him. Elena's admission to her dalliance is shocking to her friends who didn't realize how much she cares for him. Each girl has been so wrapped up in their own drama that they haven't really been paying much attention to what the others are going through. The fact that Caroline knows about the sire bond just bring back too many memories of her toxic relationship with Damon, and she uses her knowledge to hurt him, but ends up hurting the person she was trying to protect - Elena. Surprisingly, Elena stands up for herself, and begins to kick her friends out. She's fed up with people trying to dictate her feelings and actions for her.

To me it's understandable why Caroline feels the way she does, but the way she handled the big news this episode was a bit tacky. Yes, Caroline has every right to worry her BFF is being taken advantage of by Damon based on her own history with him, but to use her knowledge as a weapon was just downright dirty dealing. No me gusta! Though the sire bond drama was the main story this week, it wasn't the only story.

Last week, Hayley and Tyler helped Ashley break her sire bond to Klaus, and this week she tried to overthrow Tyler as the Mystic Falls Alpha. Tyler has been dealing with so much hybrid crap lately, that he totally forgot he's a werewolf at heart, and wolves are pack animals. A point Hayley had to remind him of sensing he was about to be in series danger. After Tyler attempted to assert his dominance over Ashley, she decided to one-up him, and kidnap Caroline to send a message to Klaus. A message that would have gotten them all killed. Though the girls had been in the middle of a fight, as soon as the wolves kidnapped Caroline, they were all on Team Scooby again.

This storyline not only allowed Tyler to assert himself as an Alpha in his own right independent of Klaus. An Alpha who now has his own pack, nonetheless, but it finally got tied to the Vamp Elena story that's been brewing all season long. Shane needs 12 hybrids as part of the "cure" spell, and a witch who practices some extremely dark magic. If anyone doubt his villainy before, you can't now that  Shane's spell is looking very much like the spell Damon got duped into enacting back in the 1940's. Not only isn't there a cure for a vamp sire bond, but it's highly doubtful there was ever a vampire cure either. Besides, when on this show have you ever heard of 2 different spells with the same ingredients? Never!

By the end of the episode all of the Scoobies have joined different factions, whether they're aware of it or not. Tyler has made himself an Alpha of Klaus' hybrids, which will mean a fight of dominance will have to take place. Though Klaus mainly acts like a vampire most of the time, let's not forget he, too, is a werewolf. Only one Alpha can rule the Mystic Falls pack, and despite Tyler's flawless heart-ripping technique, it's doubtful he'll be victorious.

Even though Elena is now aware of her sire bond to Damon, she doesn't care. Damon promised Stefan he's set Elena free, a fact she knew and was prepared for when he returned home. Before Damon could utter the words that would end their love affair before it could begin, Elena begged him to give them a shot despite any of her free will he can remove at his liking. Now that they have decided to stay together, their relationship will cause major problems for everyone who not only doesn't want them together, but may be concerned about the unnatural connection the share.

With the group splintered it is beginning to look like several of them won't make it out of this scavenger hunt alive. Brother against brother. Friend against friend. Alliances have shifted, and though I enjoy the new partnerships, I worry they have weakened the group when they need to be at their strongest.

Next week is the mid-season finale. Damon and Elena continue their affair in spite of a sire bond, From the promo, it seems that Stefan will finally learn the two are now intimate. Will he also learn that it was Elena who chose to remain sired, or will his heartbreak cause him to blame his brother's selfishness? Now that Tyler has unsired all of Klaus' hybrids, he formulates a plan to kill Klaus, but what happens when Klaus manipulates Stefan's pain to his advantage? Will Stefan give up Tyler? Tune in next week for the last episode of 2012, "O Come, All Ye Faithful."

The Vampire Diaries Episode (4x09) Promo - "O Come, All Ye Faithful"

After tonight, we have just one more episode of The Vampire Diaries before the winter hiatus. Next week's episode, "O Come, All Ye Faithful," is the mid-season finale. Now that both Damon and Elena are clued in to what Caroline and Stefan figured out last week, their decision to stay together despite the sire bond doesn't seem to go over well with Stefan. As for Tyler's plan for Klaus? Let's just say that there will be blood. Again.
