The Vampire Diaries Episode (4x03) - "The Rager" Recap

Previously on The Vampire Diaries...
  • Stefan's bunny diet drove Elena to bulimia.
  • Damon and Elena shared bodily fluids.
  • New hunter arrived with a bang, and reminded us that even memorial services are deadly.
  • Matt and Elena shared bodily fluids.
  • Stefan realized everyone is making it with his girlfriend but him.
  • Tyler proved why he's captain of the football team.
  • We were reminded that Damon had murdered 1/3 of the people we've loved and lost since season 1.
  • Jeremy sees ghost tattoos.
  • Damon saving seats for Invisible Alaric wasn't so crazy after all.

Tyler looks so good lying in the hospital bed. He's got a very healthy glow. Then Connor shows up. It appears he's there to kill Tyler, but he really just wants some of Ty's werewolf venom. OMG, a big ass needle in the gums! Connor leaves, and heads to his meth lab. Or maybe he's just high for chemistry.

"Those who can't do, teach."
Damon woke up on the wrong side of the bed. When he catches Stefan prepping a motorcycle with plans to take Elena on a ride, Damon informs his baby bro that he's going to hunt Connor, and then leave town. Stefan doesn't seem to want that, and calls Damon dramatic.

At school, Elena and Matt meet at their old make-out spot for her morning feeding. Why doesn't she feed off Jeremy? Don't they still live together? I don't get it. Even though she's still hungry, Elena stops because she's afraid of hurting Matt. I love when the show uses stuff from the books.

"So you left the only person in town that actually likes you?"
The first day of school. Stefan and Elena attend history, but there's no Alaric to teach them. Rebekah arrives to invite the entire class over to her new house for an After Curfew party. She and Elena get into it, which ends with Elena receiving a pencil stake almost in her heart. While she is cleaning up in the bathroom, Bex sends in a fellow classmate that she's bitten to entice Elena. Knowing Connor is in the building, Bex smears blood all over Elena's face. Mean Girls smackdown! Score 2 for Rebekah. Afterwards, Elena vents about Bex to Stefan and Caroline. Stef offers a ditch day so she can blow off steam. I guess that motorcycle will come in handy after all.

"You're playing hunter, strapped to a bomb, while your brother plays vampire with the girl who broke your heart."

Damon found Connor all on his own, and gets staked for the effort. Too bad the stakes are also tied to bombs. Oops! Out of all the people Damon could have called, he called Meredith. I love their cute banter.

Connor has Jeremy in a classroom. He wants to train Jeremy to be a hunter. Seems tat marks hunters, and only potential hunters can see them. Jer's homework: find, and bring Connor a vamp.

Tyler has returned from the hospital, and is greeted by Klaus and his hybrids. Ty's mom called Klaus to warn him about the new hunter. Tyler's friend Hayley shows up. One of her pack friends is one of Klaus' hybrids. She's the one who helped Tyler break his sire bond to Klaus. Um....

Bex apologizes to matt. Denied! I have to hand it to her for being big enough to do that. She must have read Emily Post's rule about apologizing to people after you nearly murder them.

"You staying for the show, or..."

Damon catches Elena searching for the White Oak stake to kill Rebekah. She claims to be searching for bourbon  but Damon isn't fooled. He knows her so well. He begins to undress after inspecting his wounds, and catches her staring. Enjoying the attention, he basically threatens to continue whether she says or not. It's her choice how much she sees.

Jeremy outs Meredith to Connor. This is so obviously a trap. The fact Connor falls for it makes his stock drop in my opinion.

"I don't give a damn about some dodgey middle-aged council."

Elena and Stefan hit up Bex's party as per their ditch day plan. While surveying the layout of Rebekah's new digs, Elena spots April. They two talk, but are interrupted by Rebekah who wants to continue sparring with Elena. The Original strikes point #3 when she throws Elena's daylight ring in the garbage disposal. Elena braves the big, bad sun to retrieve it, and is so angry she grabs the stake, but Stefan catches her. After some sage advice, Elena relents, and the pair decide to go for their ride out to the Gilbert cabin. But not before Elena up stages Bex at her own party with a keg stand.

Klaus returns to the Lockwoods to check in on Tyler, and finds Hayley in the den. The two make introductions while Tyler attempts to keep Caroline from coming inside. Klaus overhears with his superhearing, and puts 2+2 together. After Caroline leaves, Klaus calls Ty out for cheating on her with Hayley when his was spending time in Tennessee. Tyler worries that Klaus will rat on him to Caroline, but Klaus is going to let the events play out on their own. For now, anyway. As the guys talk, Damon calls to invite Tyler on his Kill Connor mission. I love how Damon is actually trying to work with others, and not just going solo. Since Klaus answers, he decides to take Damon up on his offer.

Cute Stelena on bike. Cute Stelena becomes hot Stelena once they get to the lake house. Then... Elena gets all veiny. Seems Connor has injected her with werewolf venom. Did I miss something? When did he do that? When we last saw Rebekah she was also going through the veins, and hallucinations. I wonder if he slipped it into the beer.

Damon and Klaus lure Connor into the hospital supply room with the help of Meredith and Jeremy. They use the same arrow/bomb Damon got caught in at Connor's trailer to ensnare the hunter. Before Connor decide to blow himself up for the greater good, (what is it with these folks?), Klaus determined the hunter's tats, and weird symbols make him one of the "Five."Are they supernatural assassins, like on BTVS?

"Picking up trash is a lot more fun then sitting alone at home thinking about the family you no longer have."

Rebekah wakes to find April cleaning up her house after the party, and realizes the two girls have a lot in common. Finding a kindred spirit, Bex offers to help April solve her dad's murder. Stefan blows up Klaus' phone to ask for his help saving Elena. Now that Klaus knows who Connor is, he believes Elena is worth saving again. Then he goes to Connor's (who he secretly saved) to tell the hunter about his heritage. Stefan confesses to Caroline that he's finding it hard helping Elena without slipping back into Ripperhood. She offers to be a shoulder for him to lean on whenever he needs it.

Elena returns home to find Matt in her kitchen apologizing for nearly killing her. Only Rebekah was supposed to get hurt. He's also there to offer up her dinner. The newbie is so out of control that she decides to keep feeding past the time she normally stops, and basically attacks her ex. Luckily, Damon arrives in time to stop her. Compelling the quarterback to leave, Damon also offers to be Elena's mentor so she can learn to feed properly. Elena agrees.

Thoughts...

This season just keeps getting better, and better. So far, Vampire Elena is just as annoying as Human Elena, but I loved her bitchiness this week. I also loved seeing alliances beginning to form. Stefan reached out to Caroline in a move we haven't seen since season 2. I'm so glad this is finally happening. They would make the best of friends. I love Phoebe Tonkin, so I'm glad she's become a member of the TVD family. I'm also interested to see how her little soap opera with Tyler, Caroline, and Klaus will pan out. Jeremy is still searching for a purpose. I kind of hope he can still hook up with Connor. That had promise. As for Damon: that boy is lost in a way, but he's trying to be found.

Damon only has 3 people in his life that mean anything to him. Alaric has died. Stefan and him are on the outs. Elena rejected him. He's angry. On the outside looking in, he decides to team up with the other Scoobies to carry out his plan. Meredith saved him from a bomb, but won't have a drink with him once Damon blows up the storage room. Klaus was his wingman on Kill Connor, but ditched him. Jeremy is trying to hard, and too underage. In the end, Damon decided to take Meredith's advice about reconnecting with Stefan and Elena to heart, and decided to truly help Elena, instead of offering snarky commentary whenever she messes up.

Next week, Damon and Elena crash Bonnie's college visit in order for Elena to practice being a real vampire. Things get bloody when they decide to attend a fraternity Halloween party. Tune in next Thursday for episode 2x04, "The Five."

Phoebe Tonkin Interview Round-Up " Hayley definitely has some secrets and some information that she's looking for"

Phoebe Tonkin will first appear in tonight's episode of The Vampire Diaries. Here's a few interviews from the dark haired beauty who will play Hayley.

 The Hollywood Reporter
"Tyler probably didn't explain [his situation] very well to Caroline, so she jumps to conclusions a little bit when she sees Hayley chilling out with Tyler," Tonkin says. And because of her tomboy ways, Hayley "doesn't really see she's doing anything wrong. She thinks she's hanging out with her friend."

TV.com's Price Peterson
This week we'll finally get to see the unveiling of what a Phoebe Tonkin character looks like on The Vampire Diaries. What's Hayley like so far? Is she nice, is she not nice? Is she sassy, is she shy?

She's a tomboy. She lost her parents when she was younger, so she sort of grew up running around with these packs of werewolves. She's a free spirit, she's kind of ballsy, she stands up to people a lot, I think just because she's had to take care of herself for so long. Yeah, so, she's strong. But in the sense that she's a good person. I think she has priorities of her own, but I don't think she's going to be manipulative like Faye—Faye would've done whatever it took to get what she wanted. But Hayley definitely has some secrets and some information that she's looking for, which is kind of more or less what brings her to Mystic Falls. She's trying to find something out.

TV Line
Tonkin advises fans of the couple not to fret too much. “Caroline and Tyler have their own situations going on,” she says. “I don’t think Hayley is a huge priority for Caroline at the moment. They have a lot of bigger things” to worry about. And the werewolf, too, is on a mission, so starting a relationship (or breaking one up) isn’t on her agenda.

What do you think Hayley's secret will be?

The Vampire Diaries Episode (4x02) Recap - "Newsflash- we aren't Japanese."

Previously on The Vampire Diaries...
  • Elena finally grew some fangs.
  • Damon's balls returned.
  • Stefan thought he was qualified to give drinking advice to newbie vamps o_O
  • Kyler was Batman, and saved the town... or at least Caroline.
  • Blondie Bex had to fend for herself.
  • Stefan and Elena made cute.
  • Bonnie crossed over into the dark side.
  • Bonnie &/or Kyler killed Grams ;(
  • Crazy Pastor rounded up Liz & Carol, then blew up the Founder's Council.
The episode starts with Stefan and Elena canoodling in the woods. Then we flash back to earlier in the day when Damon and Stefan got in an argument over Stefan teaching Elena how to live on the Bunny Diet. Damon's point was a good one: "She can learn to control the bloodlust, if she can feel the bloodlust." Elena watches as Stefan takes down Bambi. This seems complicated since she hasn't even learned how to use her vamp speed yet. In the midst of Stefan's tutorial, the pair get horny. Unfortunately, poor Stefan will just have blue balls, because Elena ended up puking blood before he could get to the promised land.

"I was a cheerleader. I suck at track."
There's a new hunter in town, and he's kind of a cutie. He's also kind of a bad-ass. The Scoobies need to watch out! While Tyler and Caroline are having "grief sex" upstairs, Mayor(?) Lockwood is entertaining the new hunter, Connor. Sadly, when Tyler introduces himself, Connor shakes hands with gloves laced with vervain. Oops! Once Tyler gets outed, Connor shoots Ty, but the hybrid escapes. By the time Caroline gets downstairs, both Tyler and Connor are gone.

"I've known some of the Council since they were kids."
"Well, the Council just tried to kill your daughter."
Sheriff(?) Forbes begins the "Damon blew up the council" train by accusing her vamp friend of doing just that. Damon makes it clear that a gas leak wouldn't have been his style. Later, Elena also accuses him of the same thing. Instead of being pissy about it, Damon decided to help Elena once she confided to him what happen in the woods by feeding her his blood.

"But if I don't say anything... Then... what if nobody does?"
The next day, the gang attends the memorial for Pastor Young and his cult. Er, Founding Council members. The pastor's daughter April returned to Mystic Falls for the event. While Elena tried to comfort her friend she ended up getting sick and throwing up all over the basement bathroom. Since Stefan was visiting Bonnie trying to get intel on what the strange symbols on the bullets Connor used to shoot Tyler mean, Elena called Damon for help. Not only did he bring her a change of clothes, but Damon also brought Elena a Capri Sun of Blood. As the two left the basement (under the watch of Connor), Damon ended up getting caught by Stefan feeling  up comforting Elena. In the midst of their argument, big-mouth Damon revealed Elena's little indiscretion with him earlier. Oops!

"So what brings you to Mystic Falls? Bible salesman?"
While the Scoobies began to gather for the memorial, Connor was inside the CHURCH STABBING APRIL!!! Who does that? I digress... Connor is using April as bait to see who the vamps in town are. Doesn't work. They're all hip to his plan, and team up. Even when it comes to keeping Elena from spiraling out of control. Matt was quick to offer up his neck to his former flame, while a jealous Stefan looked on. That girls sure gets around. Since he's the only known offender, Tyler gets up to make a speech so he can draw Connor's attention off the rest of the gang. It works! Connor shoots Tyler again, everyone flees, and Caroline pulls the stake out of Tyler while the Mayor calls for an ambulance.

Since every supe could smell April's blood, the gang knows the girl's life is in danger. Since Connor is in the wind, Elena take the opportunity to save her friend. Except the bloodlust is too strong. Luckily, Caroline catches Elena before she can attack the wounded girl. After calming Elena down, Caroline teachers the baby vamp how to use compulsion on April. That works too! The Scoobies are now 2-2. Things are really looking up for them. If you forget about the gazillion friends and loved ones who've died...

"You're in hell which means I'm in hell."
While Connor is in his trailer reading his stolen letter the pastor wrote to April, Stefan is teaching Elena to become an alcoholic. Bourbon is an appetite suppressant. I love how she screws up her face like bourbon is nasty. Wasn't she drinking Damon's bourbon at her 18th birthday party? *head scratcher*
Anywho... after teaching his lady love the benefits of booze, Stefan begins to get all mopey about her vamp infidelity. Whatev! Like she was supposed to know that feeding on another vamp in the ladies restroom while you rub on each other was a form of vamp sex. Stefan really needs to make a 'Do's and Don't" list. Just saying.

"Japanese lanterns are for letting go of the past. Well, newsflash: we aren't Japanese."
After Elena breaks down, and manipulates tells Stefan, "I feel like I've been crying ever since my parents died. Life: is like a never ending funeral," he calls a Scooby meeting. The crew assembles, and Stefan declares they all need to grieve for their loved ones. Since a gang of folks have dies in the past year, they've never had the opportunity to adequately do that. He's right. These folks can't even have a memorial service without some yahoo shooting it up. The each take turns lighting a lantern in the name of someone they've lost. Stefan started by listing everyone close to him that Damon has killed, and Jeremy reminds everyone that he's lost the most. Of course Elena had to add the whole town to her list. Show off! While they all shared, Damon just rolled his eyes, hopped in his car and drove off. Right to Alaric's grave.

Tumblr fail stand in pic
Damon didn't want to light a lantern, but remember his friend by hanging with him the way he would if Alaric was still alive. With a bottle of bourbon. I thought the lantern scene was worth a slew of tears, but this scene brought the ugly tears. As Damon poured out his heart in typical Damon fashion, the ghost of Alaric looked on. Even though Damon's sentiments weren't as heartfelt as the others', they were no less touching. Side note: You could tell that Damon had probably been spending loads of time at Alaric's grave by all the old candle wax on Alaric's tombstone from previous visits.

This episode really knocked it out of the park. You could see the new paths each character is now on, and the new danger they will face this season. Though Connor is a hunter, he's not a good guy. In fact, based on Pastor Young's letter to April, and next week's promo, I believe he may be the 'New Evil,' the pastor was warning his daughter about. Last week, many fans were wondering what happened to Jaime. I loved how the show brought him up by letting us know that he and Bonnie are still an item, though she hasn't been seeing him since Grams died again. The other thing that struck me as foreshadowing was Damon's comment to Elena that she may be rejecting the transition since she is a doppelganger. I guess that this season will probably end up being about saving Elena again, even though she's now a vampire who should be able to take care of herself. I hope not.

Next week on The Vampire Diaries, Connor will try to train Jeremy. Damon will try to kill Connor. Matt will get choked out. Oy! Tune in next Thursday for episode 4x03, "The Rager."

Somerhalder says, "He's missing his best bro, but he's also telling those around him: 'I tried so hard to make you guys see my point of view. And now what's happened? Alaric is dead. Elena is dead.' Damon was right. And now he's saying: 'This is who I am. I tried to play nice and know what? It didn't work.'" As for the animal sanctuary Ian is building in Louisiana, Ian says, "It's all about compassion." To read more of Ian's interview, click here

The Vampire Diaries "Growing Pains" Recap - "We'll get through this like we get through everything. One day at a time."

Previously on The Vampire Diaries...

  • Klaus and Stefan give a whole new meaning to the buddy movie.
  • Alaric gets a new home.
  • Klaus becomes a father.
  • Vampire Barbie enrolls in Mystic Falls High.
  • The Original family reunited.
  • Tyler comes out, and gets "cured" by Mr. Forbes.
  • The Ghosts of Episodes Past haunt the town, kill townies, and say good-bye.
  • Mystic Falls gets a (new) serial killer.
  • Klaus "dies", and steals Tyler's body.
  • Alaric dies, becomes a Super-Vamp, dies again.
  • Elena bites the big one.
The show opens with a new cold open replaying the last three seasons. Then Elena wakes up, and we see the "Alive" clip released last week. Damon is still bitter about Elena choosing Stefan. He's also pissed at his little brother for saving Matt instead of Elena. Meanwhile, Klaus wants back in his body which was saved when Alaric closed the coffin, stifling the fire, and saving Klaus' body. Of course, she doesn't want to do that, but wants Klaus to inhabit a less dangerous body.

"And now the world has one more quarterback."
"I made a mistake that I'm going to regret fr the rest of my life. Now, let my try to fix it."

The Founder's Council is on the war path. Liz lost her job, the mayor is on lockdown, and Caroline is on the run. Thanks Evil Alaric for ruining all the fun! (I miss you. Please come back!) Caroline doesn't get too far, though. As she's heading out of town, she gets darted, again, and winds up in a van with a drugged Rebekah who just won her fight with Damon by getting saked, and bagged. The council doesn't stop there. The also head to the Gilbert house to grab Stefan. Elena is so busy regaining her compelled memories, she doesn't even hear them break in, and draw down on her boyfriend.

Earlier, in happier times, Stefan watched Elena try to force food down her throat. She can't, because she's in transition, and the only food she craves is human blood. This strikes her as funny, and Elena begins to laugh uncontrollably. Then she begins to cry the same amount. She's a hot mess! Her emotions are all over the map. Besides food, daylight is also starting to affect her, so she heads upstairs to take a nap when all of the memories Damon compelled her to forget return. Uh, oh! This could be great, or it could be a great disaster. When she comes downstairs, and sees Stefan being captured, the vigilantes decide to take her along as well. This isn't too much of a problem until the vigilante leader, a deranged pastor, realizes that Elena is in transition. No bueno!

"Keep 'em busy little sister."

"That annoying woman," Mayor Lockwood calls her "son" to inform him Caroline has been captured, when he takes off to save the day. Knocking over a van, causing the vehicle carrying Caroline and Rebekah to be over turned, Klaus rips off the doors and saves Caroline, leaving Rebekah to fend for herself. But not before revealing his true identity to her. This ends up not going over well with her, which he pays for later.

"Touch it (black magic) again, and the spirits will make you pay in ways that will make you suffer."

Once in the woods, Caroline and "Tyler" begin to have reunion sex. Until Klaus makes the mistake of calling her "Love." Bam! Caroline realizes "Tyler" is Klaus, and berates him for taking advantage. To his credit, he did try to tell her repeatedly, but she kept smothering him with her kisses. The two head to Bonnie so she can put Klaus back into his own body, but Bonnie has just been admonished by Grams for using black magic to save Elena. Bonnie was this close to bringing Elena's spirit back when Grams showed up. Bonnie listened, and let Elena go. Now, she has to do the very thing Grams warned her against when Klaus begins to rip Tyler's heart out. I think this is arguably the grossest TVD scene to date. Bonnie uses the black magic to stop Klaus, but the spirits take their revenge on Grams for Bonnie's indiscretions. I don't know what the spirits did to Grams, but DAMN BONNIE AND KLAUS TO THE FIERY PITS OF HELL!

"Stefan, I'm out of time. I'm dying."

Damon, Matt, Liz, and the Mayor plan how to save everyone from the Council. The Scooby Gang 2.0 figures out where everyone is being held, and Damon and Matt go to rescue the captives. Stefan, Elena, and Bex are being held in cells on the pastor's farm. Elena has 3 hours left according to Blondie Bex. During that time, she and Stefan say their good-byes. Again. Stefan tries to get her released, but gets shot (twice) for his trouble. Stef gets his payback when he and Bex team up to kill the guard so Elena can feed, and survive. I guess Rebekah was moved by their professions of love, and has a change of heart.
"So we just storm the place with no weapons?"
"Nah, we don't need weapons. We've got bait."
Damon and Matt arrive at the farm, and unbeknownst to Matt, Damon's plan involves using him as bait. Plus, I'm sure Damon is hungry by now since he hasn't had anything all day except a glass of bourbon at Elena's earlier that morning. After taking a bite o' Matt, Damon yells, "Woo hoo, anybody home? There's a big, bad vampire out here." Hahaha..., and then Damon gets shot. It works though. He's able to draw the guards outside, kill them, and then try to kill Matt for existing, but a newly revived  Vampire Elena jumps him just in time. Damon isn't the only one who is upset Stefan chose to save Matt instead of Elena. Matt is also pissed. He even voices his feelings to Stefan who says, "You're alive because Elena chose to save your life over her own."

Courtesy of Iansmolderholic
While the boys hash out their feelings, Damon takes Elena home. She basically tells Damon to get over himself, and stop blaming everyone for the fact she chose Stefan, and not him. She also reveals to him that she remembers everything, and asks why he never told her that they had met first. "Would it have mattered?" he asks. From the look on her face he can see it wouldn't, so he doesn't see why he should have. Elena tries to use the fact that Damon would have gone against her wishes, and saved her had he been in Stefan's shoes as justification for her choice, but Damon hits back. He tells her that his selfishness would have meant she would have been able to live out a human life. Getting married, having children, and all of the other things she had dreamed for herself.

"From this moment on, you're not my family. You're not my sister. You're nothing."

While Elena and Stefan talk about all of the possibilities their new life possesses, Klaus and Rebekah discuss the end of theirs. A royally pissed off Rebekah returns home to find her brother packing his Doppleganger blood supply so he can hit the road and create more hybrids. He doesn't get why she's angry. She's indestructable. Caroline isn't. In a fit of rage, Rebekah begins to destroy the last of Elena's human blood. Klaus retaliates by banishing his little sister from his life, and snapping her neck before walking out.

In the final moments of the premiere, the crazy pastor leaks gas inside his farmhouse, and blows his followers to smithereens.

"Growing Pains" was no "The Return," but that Katherine Pierce is a hard act to follow. In a way, this episode was a reboot of the entire series, and the season 4 premiere seemed like a pilot episode, and not an episode 4 years in the making. Having said that, the show delivered. It showed what arc the series will take now its human heroine has become a vampire. We learned how she's being affected by her new emotions, and how they are affecting those who love her. We also saw that the triangle may be revolving throughout the season as Elena struggles with her emotions.

Elena isn't the only one going through changes. Rebekah has been cast out of her brother Klaus' life. What is the Most Hated Girl in Mystic Falls to do?  As for her tyrannical brother, his life has also been altered. His doppleganger has now been turned, ending any possibility of creating his much sought after hybrid army. He has pushed away the only one who's been by his side his entire life. Will he leave the town he's tried to create a home for himself in, or stay and fight the revitalized Founder's Council? I'm just as clueless about that as I am about the pastor killing his parish.

The residents of Mystic Falls have gone through a lot this past year, and from the looks of things, this year won't end much better. I guess TVD fans we all need to hang on to our hats, because we're in for a bumpy ride.

In the next episode of The Vampire Diaries, Stefan shows Elena the benefits of her new vamp powers. The Scoobies attend a memorial service for the dearly departed folks of Mystic Falls. Elena falls off her new bunny diet, and eats a parishioner.

Candice Accola and Joseph Morgan Talk Klaus, Tyler and Caroline Dynamic with Zap2It

During a set visit, Zap2It talked with Candice Accola and Joseph Morgan about what's to come this season for Klaus, Tyler and  Caroline. Read full article and watch video here.

Joseph has a very different idea of how their eventual (potential) hookup will happen. "If she's going to give him a chance, she's going to kind of have to forgive him for the Aunt Jenna thing, and all the terrible stuff," he says. "There's going to have to be some huge compromise. I mean I think the compromise would have to be on his side, really. I'm not sure how willing she would be to move towards the dark side, though anything can happen. You never know."

Through all of that, the relationship between Tyler and Klaus continues to be a factor, and we'll see more exploration of the sire bond as we get into the holiday season. "Klaus continues to try and find ways to manipulate Tyler. It started with him encouraging Tyler to bite Caroline and then swooping in like a hero to rescue her," Joseph laughs. "Everyone seemed to forget that he was the one who persuaded Tyler to bite her in the first place."

Ian Somerhalder Talks Damon and Elena with Zap2It "Is he going to be pining?"

Ian Somerhalder talks all things Elena with Zap2It. Read full article here.

"Is he going to be pining? He will definitely be pining significantly less," Ian says. "And by pining I mean like 'Aw, she doesn't love me,' that kind of thing. I think now there's a whole other element that is sort of in play here, and that is by virtue of the fact that there is this transition, this thing that's happened in our lives, and it's altering the course of the way things are going down in Mystic Falls, at least between Stefan, Elena, and Damon."

Here's the official synopsis for episode 4 titled "The Five".
“The Five” (TV-14, V) (HDTV)

A FRAT PARTY AND A FLASHBACK TO 12TH CENTURY ITALY — Damon (Ian Somerhalder) goes with Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Bonnie (Kat Graham) to visit Whitmore College, where Professor Shane (guest star David Alpay, “The Borgias”) is taking over the Occult Studies classes formerly taught by Bonnie’s grandmother.  At a fraternity costume party, Damon takes advantage of the wild scene to give Elena a lesson in choosing a victim.  Rebekah’s (Claire Holt) attempt to buy Matt’s (Zach Roerig) forgiveness falls flat, but she is intrigued by unexpected news from Klaus (Joseph Morgan).  When Stefan (Paul Wesley) questions Klaus about Connor’s (guest star Todd Williams) motives, Klaus reveals a long-ago encounter with a powerful group of vampire hunters, but it’s Rebekah who delivers the information that stuns Stefan.  Joshua Butler directed the episode written by Brett Matthews & Rebecca Sonnenshine (#404).

Will We Finally See Bonnie's Dad on The Vampire Diaries

According to Zap2It, The Vampire Diaries is currently casting a "protective parent" that will appear in episode 10. Could this be Bonnie's dad?

Producers are currently casting the role of Rudy Owens, a handsome African-American man in his late thirties to early forties. (Say, just old enough to have fathered an 18-year-old Bonnie Bennett?) The only thing we know about Rudy is that he's "a protective parent." It's a recurring guest star role that will first be introduced in Episode 10.
