Kevin Williamson on Elena's Huge Change

IGN recently interviewed Kevin Williamson about the changes Elena will be going through once the show returns for it's 4th season this fall. Besides discussing the show's season 3 finale, Kevin also discusses how Elena differs from Twilight's Bella Swan, and his desire for actress Phoebe Tonkin to join the cast. Thanks to @Secret_Circle for the heads up! Click here to read interview.

We started thinking it through. We were just like, “That’s such a fourth season thing.” And once we came up with the Original family, we knew that the next stage would be Elena turning into a vampire.

The Vampire Diaries Nabs Six 2012 Teen Choice Nominations

Just announced last week, The Vampire Diaries is nominated for six 2012 Teen Choice Awards. The show is nominated in the Choice Fantasy/Sci-fy category, while actors Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley, Nina Dobrev, and Katerina Graham are all nominated in Choice Actor/Actress categories. Somerhalder is also nominated in the Choice Hottie category. Wesley even took to Twitter to say thanks to his fans for his nomination.

Since Dobrev and Somerhalder fans tend to rally for their favorite actors to help them win a Choice Award, Wesley and Graham supporters have taken to the Internet to help get these two underrated actors a chance at winning this year. Graham's Bonnie Bennett was arguably the season 3 finale's MVP when she helped the gang survive Klaus' staking, but her character often gets relegated to the role of Plot Device. In the last episode, Graham was able to really show off her acting chops. Wesley, another often underrated actor, also got an opportunity to shine this season.

Turning Stefan from the white knight he has previously been in the first two seasons of The Vampire Diaries into the Ripper often hinted at, Wesley got a chance to show that Stefan is just as multi-dimensional as his brother Damon. Watching him play the tormented vampire trying to walk a thin line between good and evil has been a revelation for fans who weren't previously aware of Wesley prior to the hit CW show. Unfortunately, both Wesley and Graham are pitted up against their co-stars Somerhalder and Graham in the same categories, so fans will really have to be diligent in voting for these two actors who indeed deserve to win this year. Not to say that Somerhalder and Dobrev didn't do stellar work, but this is an ensemble show, and it's nice when some of the wealth gets spread around.

To vote for your favorites this year in the 2012 Teen choice Awards, click here, and be sure to check in daily. Thanks to @tvdnews for the heads up!

"No, no, no, no! Did I mention no?" - The Vampire Diaries (3x22) Recap

Previously on The Vampire Diaries...
  • A newly vamped Alaric kicks ass, and doesn't bother with names.
  • Best game of dodgeball ever!
  • Abby is still the worst.
  • Klaus announces he's a daddy.
  • Elena has a decision to make.

The boys continue on their way to find a place to dump Klaus' body when they learn Jeremy has admitted Elena into the hospital after her fainting spell. While Stefan returns to help keep Elena safe from the Originals, Damon continues on his mission. Alaric tried to claim Elena, and ensure his life isn't in danger, only to learn she's flown the coop. Covering all of their bases, Damon gets Bonnie's help to perform a spell on Klaus that will prevent Alaric from locating him with a witches spell.

"Why should she trust you? All you've ever done is screw her over."

On a mission to save his brother, Elijah returns to Mystic Falls to strike a deal with the gang. He'll makes sure Rebekah and Klaus leave Elena alone for 2 generations if they help him get his brother away from Alaric. The gang agrees if it'll mean Elena gets to live a normal life. Of course with this being The Vampire Diaries things don't go as planned.

Alaric figures out that Jeremy has given him misinformation. Despite being outed to the Council, Tyler and Caroline decide to stay in town to help their friends. Matt works with Jeremy to drug Elena and sneak her out of town.

"Call me if you cough up a lung."

Once Klaus gets staked, the gang discovers the truth of their parentage. Tyler begins to feel the effects of his sire's death, but none of the others do. Did Klaus lie? Nope! When Bonnie had her moment alone with him, she pulled a body snatch. Klaus is safely tucked away in Tyler's body.

Sensing the end is near, Matt gives Elena a choice: Does she want him to driver her to Damon or Stefan for a final good-bye? Elena calls Damon to inform him that she's chosen to return to The Falls to be with her friends before they die. And Stefan. I think she made up her mind after Stefan kissed her, but I knew it was made up the moment she ran into his arms when he first came over to check on her. Damon doesn't get long to cry on a crate before Alaric returns to kick his ass 6 ways from Sunday.

Now that her brother is dead, Rebekah is in vengeance mode. She decides it's time to take out Alaric, and the best way to do that is by killing Elena. When Matt and Elena drive of Wickory Bridge, the events of her parent's death run parallel to her current situation.

The Flashbacks
Throughout the episode Elena flashes back to that fateful night when her parent's died in a car crash off Wickory Bridge, We get to see how her life was before it became over-run with vampires.

She had a happy family, dated the quarterback, and was a cheerleader without a care in the world except a boy who wanted to be her forever. Not feeling the same, Elena and Matt where on the way to splitsville when she suffered one of the biggest tragedies in her life.

Stefan was the one who saved her life back then, but this time around she asked him to save Matt. What Elena didn't know is that she didn't just faint. She had a brain hemorrhage, and was dying.  Until Dr. Meredith Fell gave her vampire blood, and saved her life. Her decision to put Matt's life before her own cost her that very life. Her human one. Now Elena is in transition to be a vampire. Something she never aspired to. Will she complete the change, or will she opt to die?

The Road Ahead...
Courtesy of Dobrevc
  • When Elena chose Stefan she told Damon that maybe if she had met him first things would have been different. Now that she is on her way to being a vampire, will she remember that she actually did?
  • Now that Elena's outlook on life has changed, will her choice?
  • Is Tyler also in his body, or did Bonnie move him to Klaus'? Is he dead?
  • Alaric died when Elena did. Will he come back since she did also? Will that add her to his hit list?
  • How will the Stefan and Damon handle Elena's current situation?
  • Will Caroline ever figure out that Klaus is alive in Tyler's body?
  • What will happen to the gang now that the Council is wise to their shenanigans?
  • What will Katherine think about her carbon copy following her into eternity with the boys by her side? Will forever seem too long for her to wait to reclaim what she believes to be hers?
  • IS MATT DONOVAN ALRIGHT?
It's been one hell of a season fans, and I have to say that the last 5 minutes of the season 3 finale totally makes up for the several less than stellar episodes this season. I haven't been this interested to see how things pan out in the coming season since I saw the season 1 finale. What did you all think of the finale, and the season as a whole? Be sure to sound off in the comments below! Also, don't forget to tune into the IHTVD radio show this Saturday evening for the finale round-table, and last IHTVD show ever ;( It's sure to be a fun night. As for the site, don't worry. "Just between us girls, which one would you have chosen?" - The Vampire Diaries (3x21) Recap

Previously on The Vampire Diaries...
  • The Roaring 20's roared it's stylish head.
  • Esther hatched her nefariously confusing plot.
  • The kids danced.
  • Bonnie almost got laid. Almost.
  • Someone died. (RIP Alaric!)
  • Someone was reborn.
  • Klaus went postal.
OK, kids, sorry I wasn't my usual self last week. I tried to be, but let's face it. Last week's less than stellar episode was just too damn confusing. And not in a good way. Thanks to the good TVD tradition of airing a crazy-ass episode after a complete fail, we have so much to talk about tonight. Let's get started!

"If you are really trying to be the good guy, can't you just give us one day? One day without vampires?"

Tonight's episode was chock full of little gems. My favorites were Klaus face when he was trying to bust through Elena's house, and Damon's after Abby denied his drink offer. I hope I can find GIFs someplace...

OK, so this isn't the GIF I was talking about, but I couldn't resist.

Basically, the heat is on! Now that Esther has vacated Rebekah's body, Klaus is in the know about all of the shenanigans going on, and he's ready to kick rocks. Of course the Hybrid master isn't about to leave without his precious doppelganger. This doesn't go exactly to plan since there is an immortal vampire vampire hunter with plans of his own. Long story short, Alaric holds Caroline hostage, and lures Elena out of the safety of her home.

While Elena plays negotiator, Stefan, Damon, Bonnie, and Jeremy attempt to fend off Klaus. Once they realize that Elena has snuck away, they make a shaky alliance. Bonnie talks to Jaime (off screen), and gets the Vampire Mummification spell from Abby. Sadly, she had to return to MF in order to give up the deets.

"You're asking me to walk into sudden death?"

Abby says that in order for Bonnie to take Alaric out like she did Pappa Original back in the day, Bonnie will have to stop his heart. To do that she has to balance the scales by stopping a human's as well. Jeremy volunteers because he's wearing his Death Defying ring, and hasn't learned from Alaric's mistakes. They drink Bon Bon's blood so she'll be linked to them, and know when to do the spell.

Things go well until they don't. Klaus saves Caroline, but takes Elena hostage for himself. See, right before Alaric was about to stake Klaus, Elena realized that he didn't kill her because Ester linked his life to Elena's. Once Klaus heard this, he figured he's kill two birds with one stone. Syphon Elena's blood for his hybrid army, kill her, and kill Alaric by default. Smart cookie!

Tyler was there, though, so he tried to rescue her, and got Salvatore back-up. With Ric's help. Once he realized Klaus' plans (and was still trapped at the school by the sun) he formed an alliance with The Boys.

Klaus spent the entire episode trying to get under Stefan, Damon, and Elena's skin. I think he only managed to crawl under Elena's though.

After she was rescued, the gang used Bonnie's spell on Klaus. Dropping Elena back home, she addressed the elephant in the room. She knows she needs to stop stringing them along, but she's afraid to lose either of them.

Since his first plan failed, Alaric decides now is the time to reveal himself, as well as Carol and Liz. Doh!

Now that they're all safe (including Jeremy) the gang decides to celebrate while Stefan and Damon travel to the Atlantic Ocean to dump Klaus. After everyone leaves, Elena drops. Too much blood loss? Witchy woo-woo? I don't know, but something tells me Elena may not be human much longer.

That was my two cents. What did you think about tonight's episode? Excited for the finale? Be sure to sound off in the comments below! Until next time...
