The Vampire Diaries won't be back until April 19th, but check out the extended promo in the meantime. It may only be a few seconds longer than the short, but it's packed with some interesting scenes. Thanks to @xLuvDamonx for the heads up!
Alaric's killer within surfaces long enough to gut Meredith.
Deadbeat, depressed, vampire Abby leaves town.
Damon's sexiest teacher returns to Mystic Falls.
Rebekah discovers why three is a party.
Stefan and Elena bond over Alaric's predicament.
Damon uncovers the one weapon to kill them all.
After last week's disappointing episode I was hoping the writers would make it up to me, and boy did they ever. "Murder of One" reminded me of why I fell in love with The Vampire Diaries two seasons ago. There were a few moments for the shippers. Some blood, carnage, and death. Not only did every character have a purpose, but they all had a chance to shine at least once during the episode. This is how you effectively use an ensemble cast! Not only was I on the edge of my seat, but I was actually surprise a couple times. Now that my praise is out of the way, let's get this show on the road!
"His morals get pretty questionable when he has revenge on the brain."
Ever since Damon unveiled the White Oak Wickery Bridge Sign last week, Stefan has renewed his Operation: Kill Klaus gusto. The boys decide that tonight's the night, and they need everyone armed and ready. Including the Mystic Falls Slasher, or as I like to call him Alaric. One catch, Alaric wants to turn himself in for murder, but Stefan isn't having it. Who hasn't killed someone in that town?
The boys fill in Caroline, Matt, and Elena on the plan, and everyone seems ready to rumble. Except Bonnie who is MIA. The mission is easy: Everyone has a concealed stake, Klaus needs to be kept away from Rebekah, and Becca (or Buffy the Vampire as Caroline calls her) will have the honor of biting the big one by whoever gets the shot. Simple right? WRONG!
"What he would want, and what we should do are two different things."
Everything goes to hell in a hand basket soon as Rebekah kidnaps Damon. Or so you'd think. Where as Damon dropped everything to save Stefan in season 1 ("Let the Right One In"), Stefan rightfully figures that Damon wouldn't want that, and proceeds with the plan. Elena is not happy about this, and neither is Stefan. (More on that later.)
The gang gets an opportunity to stake the newly returned Finn, who had just reunited with the love of his life Sage. Aww... Though she was grieving, Sage decided she'd beat the snot out of Stef like it was 1912, but sadly dropped dead an hour later. How did this happen? Funny you should ask. Bonnie wasn't MIA. She had been accosted by Klaus to unbind the Originals. Apparently, if you kill one of them every vampire in their bloodline dies within an hour. Doh! Definitely puts a crimp in Operation: Kill Klaus.
Problem: Caroline was made by Damon. Damon and Stefan were made by Katherine who was made (indirectly) by Rose. Who turned Rose? Since all of them are still kicking it obviously wasn't Finn (or Mikael), but that still leaves Kol, Rebekah, Elijah, and Klaus. Until they know which OG is their ancestor, that means hands off. The one thing we know for sure is that Klaus turned Tyler. If he dies, so does Ty.
"I get it. If Klaus bossed me around for 1,000 years, I'd be starved for attention too."
While the Scoobies were scrambling to figure out who begot who, Damon spent the day being tortured for his sins against Bex. It seems she really did believe he was into her, and is hurt he used her for sex (and info on killing her). Like an OG, Bex chained Damon up with some rusty bear traps she found in a shed, and proceeded to bleed the vervain out of him with the intent of compelling him to kill Stefan or Elena. By the time Stefan realized that killing Klaus might be the death of himself, he decided to offer a trade. The remaining stakes for his brother's life. Deal struck (eventually), and Damon saved with the condition they'll return the last 2 stakes Stefan had hidden or else ...
"Go on, help him. Save the man who turned your mother into a vampire." So how did Bonnie get forced into doing Klaus' bidding? He threatened to kill Abby, and Jeremy. Reluctantly the witch fulfilled her duties, but was horrified when she saw what Rebekah was doing to Damon. Still, considering what he's done to her, I can't blame her for leaving him there. Bon Bon isn't that cold-hearted, though. She called Elena to tell her what happened as soon as she left the house, then broke down. I definitely can't blame her. Can't Bonnie catch a break?!?
"Look, I love you. I will always love you. I just need you to look me in the eyes and tell me you don't feel something for him."
Once things were back to the status quo, Stefan decided to say what's been eating him for months. He still loves Elena, but he's not blind. He knows she's in love with his brother. All he wants is her to be woman enough to admit it to his face. She can't. In Elena's defense, she's been through a lot so it's understandable that she'd be confused. Here's the hitch: twice she has told Matt that she's in love with them both, so she obviously could have answered Stefan. She's just a chicken.
"Are you telling me that you're vampire-hating alter-ego has a stake that can wipe out an entire vampire line, including mine?" To secure Damon's freedom, the boys promised to hand over the last 2 remaining stakes in their possession. Stefan found Damon's, but Alaric has one as well. When Damon goes to retrieve it he discovers that Alaric lost time, and his alter has hidden the stake. Doh!
Questions, Comments, Wonderings, & Quotables...
Caroline: "Oh, Elena Gilbert: Savior of the Cursed & Damned."
JoMo reminds me of a teddy bear when he smiles mischievously. I just want to hug him.
Lost Boy = Matt
Rebekah: "Hello, lover!"
Rebekah: "Found them (bear traps) in the shed. What kind of monster would try to trap a poor, defenseless animal?"
Klaus has been having Kol stalk Jeremy this whole time. Could Kol be one of Jer's new "friends"?
Caroline is the best! Loved her talk with Alaric, though her using Elena's play book kind of scares me.
I also love that Matt is now on the team.
Klaus: "Or maybe since you lied I'll just make your brother chew out his own tongue."
Stefan: "What is wrong with you?"
Klaus: "Bring us the stakes, all of them, or I'll wage a war against everyone you love. Am I making myself clear?"
Klaus: "I wanted a family. They just didn't want me."
I know I've already said that this was a great episode, and it was. You really got to see the dynamics between everyone involved. Now we just have to wait for 2 weeks to pass until episode 3x19, "Heart of Darkness." Now that Elena knows Kol is in Denver, she enlists Damon's help. Stefan is dealing with having to start over now he no longer has his revenge, and possibly not Elena. Tyler returns! Check out the short promo below.
That was a great episode tonight, wasn't it? That is what The Vampire Diaries is all about. Next week we see a road trip, Jeremy's possible return, and Delena between the sheets? Check out the short promo for the next new episode, "Heart of Darkness." Thanks to @xLuvDamonx for the heads up! Highlight to reveal!
The CW just released the episode synopsis for episode 3x19 titled, "Heart of Darkness." Highlight to reveal!
TYLER RETURNS TO MYSTIC FALLS — Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder)
set off together to make sure Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) is safe in Denver, and to see if his special abilities can help reveal the information they need about ancient vampire bloodlines. It doesn’t take them long to learn that Jeremy has been hanging with the wrong people. Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Klaus (Joseph Morgan) both go to brutal extremes in their search for the missing weapon. Caroline (Candice Accola) is thrilled when Tyler (Michael Trevino) returns to town, but Tyler soon suspects that something has been going on between Caroline and Klaus. Matt (Zach Roerig) has his hands full trying to keep Rebecca (Claire Holt) busy organizing the school’s upcoming 1920s Decade Dance. Chris Grismer directed the episode written by Brian Young and Evan Bleiweiss (#319).
Check out this exclusive pic from Zap2it! (via @cadlymack) It features Damon and Elena from this week's episode titled "The Murder of One". Any predictions? Leave them in the comment section.
E! Online has a couple spoilers for the end of season 3, but unless you've been AWOL from the Internet the past few weeks there isn't really anything new here. Seems like Elena's parents have been cast, and many wonder if Alaric will make it to the end of the season since Matt Davis is currently filming the pilot to his new show, Cult. Click here to read more spoilers for you favorite shows. Highlight to reveal!
Bridgette: Is Matt Davis (Alaric) on through the end of the season of The Vampire Diaries or not because of filming The Cult?
According to a source on the show, Matt Davis is currently juggling pilot duties (yes, he was cast in The Cult) and TVD duties. Fancy! And so we shouldn't assume Alaric is a goner...at least not yet.
Gold Derby recently interviewed Nina Dobrev about winning her People's Choice Award, playing dual role on The Vampire Diaries, and the season 3 finale. Beware of spoilers!
Damon tried teach Stefan the meaning of the word "moderation."
Alaric discovered he really is a crazy, knife-wielding murderer. And possibly possessed by a ghost.
If you know me well you know how much I love classic rock. Especially anything from the 1960's and 1970's. So of course when I learned the episode title for tonight's episode was "Break on Though" I immediately thought of The Doors. One of the things I love most about The Vampire Diaries is how their titles are after horror films, classic rock songs, or great literature. It's like an Easter egg for all the geek fans. So this week I thought I'd dissect the show based on the lyrics of the song of the same name.
You know the day destroys the night Night divides the day Tried to run Tried to hide Break on through to the other side Break on through to the other side Break on through to the other side, yeah
Elena and Meredith took Alaric to the hospital to get him check out, and to make sure that nothing is medically wrong with him. It doesn't take long for us to see by Alaric's reflection in the mirror that the man is possessed. Alaric has always been an enigma. We don't know much about him except he is someone who appears to be trustworthy. What Elena (and Stefan) discovers is that whatever is happening to Alaric has been happening a long time.
While Elena is looking for Alaric's wedding ring so Bonnie can do a spell to save him back at Alaric's loft, Meredith almost meets her maker. In a classic horror movie move, Meredith runs up the stairs to escape a knife-wielding Alaric instead of out the door. A Kevin Williamson production! *tsk, tsk* Luckily, Meredith learned to secure herself, and find something stabby when being chased by a maniac. Sadly, she had already been nearly gutted.
We chased our pleasures here Dug our treasures there But can you still recall The time we cried Break on through to the other side Break on through to the other side
While he was supposed to be on Alaric duty, Damon gets distracted by a "blast from the past" in the form of Sage. Seems like the 900 yr old vamp is looking for the love of her life, Finn. Sadly, aside from Damon, she doesn't get a warm welcome. Rebekah has a few choice words for her, to which Sage responds, "God, I hat that elitist, Original bitch!" No love lost there. So I guess it shouldn't be a surprise that Sage's plan for Damon to find out what Becca is after is for him to seduce her so Sage can rape her mind. As soon as I heard this I just knew things wouldn't turn out well. And they didn't.
Damon played his part, and Sage played hers enough for Damon to discover Ms. Lushy Pants was looking for a White Oak tree. Damon was able to find just where the tree was due to the fact that the Salvatores actually keep all of their family's records. Good to know that their library isn't just filled with literary gems. I give you 3 guess what happened to the tree, and the first 2 don't count. Ready?
Wickery Bridge! Wow, never saw that coming. Yes, folks, that was sarcasm. If you follow me on Twitter you may know I predicted that last week. Or maybe I just told @80sRebelGirl that on the phone. Here's the catch: Sage also got the 4-1-1 on how all the Originals are linked, and that killing Becca means her precious Finn would also die, so you connect the dots on that one.
*Note: That threesome was WAY over-hyped. I think folks need a dictionary to learn what having a threesome actually means. That, or a lot of porn.
I found an island in your arms Country in your eyes Arms that chain us Eyes that lie Break on through to the other side Break on through to the other side Break on through, oww! Oh, yeah!
While Alaric was going slasher/killer, and Damon was indulging his libido, Stefan and Bonnie were dealing with some real world vampire problems.
Stefan is trying to use the Damon School of Vamp Moderation techniques, and seems somewhat successful. He didn't even drop his Capri Sun of Blood when Elena barges in to his house. Way to be, Stef! Though his control began to falter by the time Damon got home. Baby bro was blood-diving in the cooler. Always looking out for his brother, Damon tells a ravenous, crazed-looking Stef to leave unless he wants to witness Naked Times with Sage and Bex. I guess that's why Stefan decides to help Elena. I have to give props for Stef not chowing down on Meredith after he and Elena find her bleeding to death on the bathroom floor.
Just when it seems the Scooby gang needs a witch to solve their Alaric problem, Bonnie is at Abby's place helping her adjust to her new life. It's a good thing she has Caroline there to help her. Not much goes on her. Abby nearly kills Jaime. Caroline gives the best speeches ever. Abby waits until Bonnie is in Mystic Falls helping Alaric before she runs away. Not even Caroline can fix this one.
Made the scene Week to week Day to day Hour to hour The gate is straight Deep and wide Break on through to the other side Break on through to the other side Break on through Break on through...
It appears that Bonnie was able to save Alaric. Elena calls Jeremy just to hear his voice and make sure he's not crazy (MISS YOU STEVEN MCQUEEN!!). Damon informs his best bud that he'll be under house arrest back at his loft until he can get fixed for good. Rebekah and Sage may have burned down the remains of Old Wickery Bridge, but Damon has a surprise for Stefan. Turns out the new sign Alaric had made for the Wickery Bridge Restoration Project is also made from the white oak tree. Dun, dun, dun, dun, dun!!
Quotables:
Damon: "Ready to ditch this house of horrors?"
Damon: "Oh, yeah, back when you two (Elena and Stefan) were in love, it was all rainbows and unicorns." Great shout out to my girl @entertainocd!
Damon: "Ric, the world can't just stop just because you're a psychotic serial killer."
Damon: "Do I have to tell you that you're sexy when you're bitchy?"
Alaric: "It's funny to think that the anger I had lead me to believe I could take on a vampire started with this ring stuff."
Stefan: "I'm not trying to hurt you, Elena. I just can't be who you want me to be."
Tune in next week to see the Scooby's bear arms stakes. Finn reveal the fine print in Esther's spell to Klaus. Rebekah shows Damon how much damage a woman scorned can actually dish out.
It's time for E! Online's Spoiler Chat Daily. It appears that romance is on everyone's minds lately, since the two juicy spoilers the folks over at E! has for us today is solely about the show's love triangles. Click here to read spoilers for your other favorite shows.
Molly: What can we expect from Tyler's return? What does it mean for Caroline and Klaus?
Tyler makes his return in "Heart of Darkness" with a big sexy scene between him and Caroline. Hope Klaus doesn't find out! No, really. You know how Tyler is all sired to him and everything? That would not end well.
Entertainment Weekly interviewed Candice Accola about her latest TV obsessions, Caroline's love triangles, and how this season's finale made her cry. The other topic of discussion was how Caroline will react to Matt's reemerging feelings for his ex, Elena. Seems fans weren't the only ones to notice the look he gave his former flame in last week's "1912." Click here to read interview.
“I think Caroline has feelings for Matt in a very protective way. At this point, she’s in a full-fledged relationship with Tyler, who used to be his best friend. There’s really not much going back to that,” she says.
Candice Accola discussed tonight's episode, "Break on Through," with the Huffington Post. Besides answering whether or not Caroline will discover that Alaric killed her father, Accola also talks about Tyler's return, and Caroline's friendship with Stefan in Season 4. Click here to read full interview.
"I loved the compatibility between those characters," said Accola. "It's a surprising one, but it also makes perfect sense. I love that Julie [Plec, the show's executive producer] has compared their friendship to what Stefan and Lexi had. Caroline fills that female friend void for him. I know we haven't really seen much of it this season -- and we haven't really seen Caroline help Stefan through his Ripper phase -- but she's also been very preoccupied with helping Tyler with his own demons and transitions."
Join executive producer Julie Plec as she live tweets tonight's episode with Entertainment Weekly tonight at 8PM EST. Now is the chance to ask her some of your burning questions, and interact with other The Vampire Diaries fans. Click here to join the conversation.
TV/Line interviewed Paul Wesley about Stefan's road to recovery, Delena's burgeoning relationship, and Sage's (Cassidy Freeman) arrival. Some of what Paul has to say may shock you. Click here to read full interview.
TVLINE | Elena witnessed him feeding. What does that mean for their relationship in the next episode?
It’s just another reason to not trust him, another reason to push away from him [and] say, “God, this guy is completely out of control, and not the one for me.” It brings to light the reality of their relationship, which is they’ve had so much darkness come between them, it’s almost impossible to go back.
TVLINE | Sage (played by Cassidy Freeman) is back in Mystic Falls this week. What can you tease about her return, and what it means for Damon and Stefan?
She served as a bit of a negative influence actually on the two of them, particularly Damon. She’s much wiser and stronger, so she’s a threat in that regard. She’s definitely not just some pushover. And she becomes a threat in present day, as well.
Fans of The Vampire Diaries know that Kat Graham is an accomplished musician as well as an actress. Back in February Kat announced that she had been signed to A&M/Octone Records, and will be releasing her new album this year. How hot does Kat look on the cover for her new single? Check out what Kat had to say to MTV about her music plans in the video below.
TV/Line answered one fan's question this week regarding the likelihood that a beloved character might not survive the season. They didn't have the answer to that, but they do have an idea if one fan-favorite may or may not be safe. Highlight to reveal!
Ausiello: If you’re asking whether Stefan will finally exterminate Klaus — and I’m hoping you are, since that’s the only scoop I have at the moment — the answer is… probably not, at least according to Paul Wesley. “Stefan may just say, ‘You know what? F— this guy,’” the actor tells TVLine with a laugh. “Klaus has become a little bit of a staple in this community, so it’s really more about getting Klaus to not be so much of a threat” rather than actually killing him. So Stefan’s going to suddenly abandon his quest to whack the big, bad hybrid after an entire season of Klaus’ tormenting and scheming to destroy him? “I’m not saying he will,” Wesley hedges, “but I think that it’s a possibility.”
Ian Somerhalder is Russian InStyle Magazine's Man of Style. Unfortunately I only can read book titles in Russian, so I have no idea what the article says, but check out the hot pics below! Click here to view full gallery. Thanks to @Naughtiarules for the heads up!
Earlier today The Vampire Diaries season 3 finale title was revealed by Ian Somerhalder via Twitter. The episode is titled, "The Departed." If it has anything to do with the Martin Scorsese film of the same name then we need to start a prayer circle. That film was merciless at killing major characters. Will TVD follow down the same path?
We've known for some time that Tyler Lockwood would be returning to Mystic Falls. Now that hie return is imminent, what does it mean for the burgeoning attraction between Klaus and Caroline? Executive producer Julie Plec tells Entertainment Weekly, “When he comes back, he’s going to step right into the middle of watching this hybrid making moves on his lady, and he’s not going to be too psyched about it. The question is, how do I stand up to this guy and tell him to get his hands off my girl without exposing the fact that I’m trying to break my sire bond with him. It’s going to be tough!” Click here to read more.
In today's E! Online's Spoiler Chat, Paul Wesley discusses costumes, dancing, and of course murder. Click here to read more spoilers. Highlight to reveal!

Elena get's kidnapped again!
Caroline continues to spurn Klaus' advances.
Esther tries to kill her family with the Bennett's help.
The Scoobies try to outsmart the Originals. And fail.
Alaric spends the night at Meredith's, and gets shot.
Damon turned Abby into a vampire in order to save Elena's life.
The Originals high-tail it out of Mystic Falls save Bex & Klaus.
The White Oak Tree Lives!
"Be careful Mr. Salvatore. It's not good to be a founder in this town."
Stefan and Damon return to Mystic Falls to attend their "uncle" Zach's funeral. Seems that in 1912 there was also a serial killer in town. The brothers haven't spoken in 50 years since Stefan "forced" Damon to turn into a vampire, and are seeing each other for the first time.
I'm so glad we finally find out that their uncles really are related to them, and not just caretakers of the boarding house. Seems like Guiseppe was a little rascal who knocked up one of their maids. I wonder if we'll learn more about Stefan and Damon's half-brother. Wouldn't it be interesting if he, too, was a vamp?
Matt and Elena go for a run, but it's interrupted with angst and arrests. Matt informs Elena that Bonnie is aware she has been trying to reach out to her, and doesn't blame Elena for what happened to Abby. He also tells Elena that Abby has decided to transition with the help of Caroline.
While they're talking, Elena gets a call from Sheriff Forbes. Apparently, Alaric survived getting shot, and is in jail for being a suspect in the serial killing case. He denies his culpability, but Liz refuses to let him out until she finds evidence that clears him. Damon wants to help his BFF, but Liz wants Damon to stay out of it.
I'm mean, you hate me, the Earth is back on its axis."
As he leaves the police station, Damon bumps into Elena. She is baffled when he says he isn't going to butt into Alaric's dilema. Even more so when he says he'll send Bonnie some lasagna for his condolences. Elena warns him that he'll end up alone if he keeps pushing people away.
"Oh, she devil at 9 0'Clock."
Elena apparently doesn't know Damon as well as she thinks if she believed his lie. As soon as he returns home his recruits Stefan to be the Watson to his Sherlock in the Save Alaric campaign. Plus, Damon believes it'll help take Stefan's mind off his cravings. Grabbing Stefan's journal from 1912 they boys head to the Grill.
Rebekah is already there grilling Mayor Lockwood on the history of Mystic Falls' trees,or some such rubbish. Carol informs Bex that the only person who had that information was the Salvatores since they owned the lumber business that helped build the town.
When Damon spots Rebekah the two have some major eye sexing going on, but he is on a mission. Both brothers agree that the killer might possibly be a woman, and Stefan even supposes it might have been Damon's old friend Sage. Of course Bex pops in on their fact finding chat as soon as another woman is mentioned. After she and Damon argue over how great sex with him is, the boys take off to continue their chat in private. Doesn't work.
Becca just follows them, and reveals that she knew Sage 900 years ago. Apparently Sage was obsessed with Rebekah's brother Finn. Why? Their stroll down memory lane is short lived when Stefan's cravings get the better of him.
"I knew a Sage once. Trashy little thing."
Back in 1912, Damon and Stefan meet Sage at a boxing match. Right away they both can tell she's a vampire. Must be her mad boxing skills. Damon is attracted to her, and she flirts shamelessly. Later, Sage walks in on Damon after he kills a woman when feeding off her. She lets him know that he's going about being a vampire all wrong. "A woman is for more than food, Mr. Salvatore, she's for pleasure," she tells him.
The next day, Sage teaches Damon how to chose a victim/lover. This scene has to be one of the creepiest scenes in TVD history. The second creepiest? Stefan feeding so hard from a woman that he rips her head off. Yes, ladies & gents, this is the episode that shows the Birth of the Ripper.
Damon learned so much (and so fast) from Sage that he decides to teach his baby bro some new tricks. Unfortunately, Damon isn't a successful teacher. After goading Stefan into drinking from a woman, he stands idly by why his brother rips her to pieces.
"You date vampires, Elena. It shouldn't come as a surprise that your guardian is a killer."
Believing that Damon isn't going to try to help Alaric, Elena decides to take matters into her own hands. First, she confronts Meredith who reveals to Elena some things about Alaric that Elena never knew. When Meredith refuses to help get Alaric out of jail, Elena enlists Matt to her cause.
The two break into Meredith's place and discover a hidden compartment with information on all the attacked/killed founders. While snooping they discover a Gilbert journal amongst her files. Before they can leave, Meredith returns home. Hearing her leave, they come out of the closet they were hiding in to discover that Meredith tricked them. She never left. She does, however, call the cops on them.
"Scram! No one likes a lurker."
After Stefan runs out of the Grill when he can't take being around people any longer, Damon asks Rebekah if she'll help him. The two follow Stefan out to the alley, bite a bar patron, and seduce Stefan into feeding. For a while it looks like Stef may not stop, but in the end he manages to control himself.
Unfortunately Matt and Elena were just released from police custody, and catch them. Stefan is so upset that Elena has seen him looking like a monster that he runs off.
"I think that once you've been in love with someone you can never quite shake them."
Matt takes a shaken Elena home, and they discuss her love for the Salvatore brothers, and why she broke up with Matt after her parents died. It's one of the most touching scenes ever, and also somewhat awkward. You can tell that after all this time Matt still has feelings for Elena. Must be hard to hear her talk about loving two other men. Neither of which are him.
Before things can get evenmore uncomfortable Alaric returns home. He then proceeds to one-up the creepy factor when he hugs Elena.
"Before you now it you'll be the King of Moderation."
Damon finds Stefan brooding by the fireplace, and the brothers have a heart-to-heart. Damon tells Stefan that he needs to help him learn to control his bloodlust as penance for walking away from him back in 1912.
This seen is parallel to the one in "Blood Brothers" (season 1). In "BB", Stefan apoligizes to Damon for turning him into a vampire because he "just needed his brother." In this episode Damon apologizes for walking away, and allowing Stef to become the Ripper of Monterey. Julie Plec has said that Stefan and Damon's relationship is the heart of the show, and I'd agree. Their love is unconditional. They may fight and argue, but at the end of the day they'd die for each other.
"How about we agree to just take care of each other, then?"
Upon further inspection Stefan realizes that Samantha Gilbert ended up being institutionalized right before the murders stopped, and that she, too, wore a Gilbert ring...
Meredith arrives at the Gilbert/Saltzman's to tell Alaric why she had him locked up. She believes that Samantha Gilbert was the original Mystic Falls Slasher, and that she is possessing him from his ring somehow. Elena agrees. Having finished reading Samantha's journal, Elena has read how Samantha had begun to go crazy. Alaric's blackouts aren't alcohol induced, but due to his possible possession.
Alaric is the Mystic Falls Slasher!
Comments, Quotables, and Wonderings:
"If you just want som sex, just ask for it." - Damon
"Easy there, lushy pants, it's been a hoot and a half, but it's boy's night and you weren't invited." - Damon
"Don't rile him up. He's testy when he's self-righteous." - Damon
Stefan and Damon bonding never gets old.
"So...this is going to take a little time." -Damon
As usual Elena reeks of judgement. I guess she forgot Stefan and Damon were vampires. *face/palm*
I think I now ship Matt & Elena.
"I know it doesn't make sense, but it's like I thought he'd never stop loving me. Like he'd never... die." -Elena
"Damon just snuck up on me. It's like he got under my skin, and I just can't shake him." -Elena
Damon: "I watched you go over the edge, and I didn't do anything to stop you." Stefan: "You couldn't have." Damon: "Yes I could've. I just didn't want to."
Next week, Alaric gets medical treatment for his possible possession. It worked so well for little Reagan, there's no reason to be concerned, right? What else.... Oh, Damon and Sage invite Rebekah over "to party."
Check out the Canadian promo for next week's episode. Be warned! Besides being spoilery, it is also not very good quality. Might want to wear headphones.
The Huffington Post interviewed Paul Wesley about tonight's episode, his jealousy of Damon, and tonight's shocker. Click here to read interview.
"I get a little bit jealous that Damon's kind of the bad boy," Wesley confessed. "When Elena picks Damon, it's like, he's so bad, but so good. Meanwhile, Stefan is kind of like the stable, good guy. Personally, I don't like that because I'm not that in real life. But, at the same time, Stefan has proven himself to be pretty erratic. I absolutely went bonkers when I got to play Ripper Stefan. It was like a dream come true to play Stefan as a dark, malicious guy. Saint Stefan can be great, as long as he's flawed. I like when he breaks the rules every once in a while."
When we last saw Matt Davis Alaric he had a gun pointed at him, and was possibly shot. TV Guide interviews Davis about working on The Vampire Diaries, his proposals for a new love interest, and is favorite kills. Click here to read interview.
TV Guide Magazine:Is it just us, or do you think there is something between Alaric and Elena, too?
Davis: You know, I keep pitching that to [executive producer] Julie Plec. I tell her, "If you want a ratings extravaganza, have an Alaric-Elena moment." It would be so hot!
TV Guide Magazine: If Alaric had to pick one Salvatore brother to kill, who would it be?
Davis: It would probably be Damon. It would be some sort of a lovers' quarrel. [Laughs]
Well, ladies & gents, the hiatus is finally over! E! Online talked to Paul Wesley recently, and he reveals what's to come with Stefan's road to redemption, his relationship with Elena, and his hopes for a new lady love. Click here to read interview.
"It's one of those things were they look at each other say, 'Hey, maybe this is too late. Maybe it's too late to actually salvage this.' I think it's two people who really love one another very deeply getting to a place of resolution about the fact that there may be no hope," he explains.
Tonight Smallville alum Cassidy Freeman makes her debut on The Vampire Diaries. It hasn't been revealed yet how long Freeman will be on the show, but we know from the released episode stills that she'll at least be in the next three. TV Line interviewed Freeman about her stint as Sage, working on Smallville, and landing a new A&E show. Click here to read interview.
TVLINE | How would you describe Damon and Sage’s relationship in the “1912″ flashbacks?
It’s definitely a mentor-mentee relationship, and that’s what I kind of love about this character. I’ve watched this series since it first started, and Damon is that vampire we all love to hate, and he has such a grasp on what being a vampire means to him. And what’s really interesting about this flashback to 1912 is you figure out where that came from. When he was first turned, he wasn’t like that, so this gives great insight into his arc during the entire time he’s been a vampire.
TVLINE | Is he wary of her when they reunite? Does he suspect she has an agenda involving more than true love?
I think Damon is wary of everyone, and everyone has an agenda. It’s definitely not wide-open arms, “Let’s hug it out.” There are a lot of question marks.

The hiatus will officially end tomorrow evening with an all-new episode of The Vampire Diaries, but today is filled with lots of goodies. First off, E! Online caught up with the cast last Saturday at PaleyFest, and asked them what we should expect when we watch "1912." Check out Paul Wesley talking about the direction Stefan is headed, working with his wife Torrey DeVitto, and taking Scuba lessons. Click here to see more cast videos.
In some spoiler news, Fans have wondered what will Bonnie Bennett be up to, and if we'll see more of the murderous (?) Meredith. Click here and here for more spoilers to some of your other favorite shows. Highlight to reveal!
Jackie: What's coming up for Bonnie aka my favorite character on The Vampire Diaries?! Some quality time with Alaric (Matt Davis)! Yeah, you read that right: Bonnie (Kat Graham) will be sharing scenes with everyone's favorite history teacher and when we asked Graham about the dynamic between the two, she says it's "unusual." No, we don't think TVD is doing the whole student-teacher relationship thing, but we do wonder what those two are up to… Theresa189: Please tell me Torrey DeVitto is staying on Vampire Diaries! I love to see her all psycho à la Nanny Carrie from One Tree Hill. I can tell you that Torrey is still in Atlanta (so that's a good sign), but you will not get your full wish, because you can't be so sure she's the sociopath based on what you saw in the latest episode. Thursday's episode just might be our favorite ever and it is not to be missed!
Last, but not least, Zap2It interviewed Paul Wesley on how much he loves playing Ripper Stefan, Stefan and Damon's relationship, and what he feels Stefan thinks about Damon and Elena's attraction. Click here to read entire interview.
When asked about playing Ripper Stefan, Paul tells Zap2It,
"You play a vampire on screen, and when you have to play a good vampire, you have to fight your nature. Good Stefan doesn't feel as natural in terms of what I want to be doing on screen, and what I want to be saying."
Paul also feels that Stefan even though Stefan is aware of his brother's feelings for Elena, Stefan has to let her make her own decision.
"This is the case for any relationship: you can't force anything," Paul says. "You have to let things happen naturally. Stefan, for his part, thinks that if Elena needs to explore the Damon side of things, she should be allowed to do that, and if she decides that Damon is indeed the guy she wants to be with, then I think Stefan would at that point be okay with losing her, because it means she wasn't the right girl for him anyway."
