This past weekend I had the opportunity to interview executive producer of The Vampire Diaries, Julie Plec about what fans should expect when the show returns this fall. One of the questions that has been on everyone's minds is when the writers decided to "kill" Elena, and turn her into a vampire. Julie revealed that they had originally planned to kill Elena in the season 2 finale, but it felt too soon. Instead, the writers began season 3 knowing Elena needed to die in the season finale.
