IHTVD Recap by Danielle DuCre: "Crying Wolf"

Out in the woods, Jules and Brady are placing their slain friends over the bon fire. Such a noble burial.

Stevie, one of the surviving lycanthropes, comes to the realization of Mason's involvement with Katherine. "I should've known better." Explaining his epiphany to Jules and Brady, they formulate their mission to take control of the moonstone. And, use it to exercise the sacrifice so that they may control their transformations and keep the vampires restricted to the night.

Tyler arrives and the pack fills him in on his opportunity to be free from his curse- or, at least control it. Of course they hold out the part about sacrificing his childhood friend. No big deal.

I understand his want to be free from this, but Tyler made me upset last week. Let's see if he redeems himself tonight.

"Where would you like to go?"
At the Forbes' residence, the three girl friends are bundled together in Caroline's bed. They must've had a successful slumber party cheering up Caroline because the only thing disturbing them this morning is Elena's phone ringing.

As she topples out of bed, she finds that it's Stefan calling to bid her a good morning. Elena doesn't want to go home where Uncle John is lurking so she and Stefan make plans to go to the Gilbert family's lakehouse.
"I'm an Original. Show a little respect."
Meanwhile, Damon is saying goodbye to an alive and well Andie. The newscaster is compelled to believe that she's falling in love with Damon. I'm guessing this isn't too far from the Damon swooning she was doing last episode.

Alaric is at the front door as Andie leaves. He and Damon are preparing to go to Jenna's event where she's hosting a certain Elijah Smith. Great cover- very, original.

Of course it wouldn't be a party without Uncle John! His motives since he's been back have him working his menacing ways back to the top. He's ringless, so what more can he do but make sure all eyes are off of him while he plays out his plan. So far, he's got Jenna focused on the new information that her boyfriend's ex-wife's former partner is her niece's biological father. And, now he's threatening to rat out Alaric by informing Jenna that he's known about the relation, and so much more, this whole time! (I kinda wish he would. Just so Alaric can be present for something again. I want him to be accountable for his actions! Ok, I'm done.)

Damon is engaging in on his own confrontation-with Elijah. Mr. Smith, however, doesn't need to be bothered. He quickly shows Damon that he is no match for an Original. Damon's commentary ceases as his vocal cords are disabled by a No. 2 pencil being shoved into the side of his neck. Elijah may have done that as payback for attempting to kill him, or perhaps it was just a lesson on staying out of his way.
"Stop lying!"
Caroline and Bonnie head to The Grill for some breakfast. Matt blows off Caroline when he sees them sitting at the table. Bonnie notices, but Caroline is having difficulty explaining what's going on. She tries to talk to him, but Matt is still upset about her lying to him and he confronts her about it. Walking away from her, she runs into Tyler. As she tries to avoid him, he grabs her bag forcing its contents to spill to the ground. As they gather the fallen items, Tyler swipes her cell phone and pockets it! (So far, not redeeming himself.) He uses it to send an anonymous text to Elena confirming her whereabouts. The lakehouse.

Shortly after Matt comes over and shares a few words with his pal. He doesn't care if they are into each other, he is just tired of the lies. (Go Matt!)
"I'd rather just be here, now."
Arriving at the lakehouse, Elena is slightly hesitant to plunge right into their getaway. It's the first time she's been back since her parents passed. After taking a few moments to reminisce and collect herself she and Stefan head inside. Well, almost.

Stefan can't get inside because he hasn't been invited. Although the original owners have passed, the title of the property has been transferred and according to Elena, Uncle John is the owner. (Oh great! Just what we need when a pack of wolves are on their way!) But, then, with a grand invitation she extends an invitation to Stefan. Don't worry, Stefan, she had us all fooled!

Settling in, they make their way out to the dock. Elena is recalling moments with her family which spark a conversation about their future. Deciding that they'd rekindle that conversation later, they head inside to partake in a home cooked meal by Stefan, and some underage drinking by Elena.
"What kind of witch roofie was that?"
Bonnie and Caroline are still at The Grill. Jeremy arrives to help in their plan to capture Luka and get to the bottom of Elijah's presence in Mystic Falls. Bonnie offers the warlock a beverage, puts on a little charm (which Jeremy is quick to dismiss), and he's out like a light.

They take him back home and lay him on the floor surrounded by candles. In preparation, Jeremy is instructed to bring a bowl of water. Caroline uses this time to let Bonnie know about Jeremy's obvious crush. "We're not in any position to judge." Now, Bonnie begins to perform a seance-like spell forcing Luka to tell the truth. He tries to fight it, but Bonnie gets it out of him. "Klaus." He and his father are working with Elijah to take down Klaus. Apparently, Luka's sister is being held by Klaus, and Elijah has promised to free her in return for their warlock services.

But, that's not all. None of this can be attained without the death of the doppelgänger. "Elena has to die."
"You up for this?"
After the event, Damon and Alaric head back to the Broodinghouse for some bonding time before he meets Jenna. One drink down, Alaric heads out but is caught in a scuffle. Damon turns the corner as Alaric drops to the ground with a knife protruding from his stomach. The wolfpack is here.

Damon is chained to a chair, and bound by a wooden spiked collar. The wolfpack wants to know the whereabouts of the moonstone. Oh, the irony of this torture.

At the lakehouse, Elena and Stefan prepare to gather more firewood for the evening. Entering into her parents room to get a coat for Stefan, she pauses to smell her mother's perfume. Then, tosses Stefan her great-grandfather's flannel. Soon, their intimacy takes them to the wall which Stefan realizes is hollow. Breaking the lock on the hidden door, a hiding place filled with lots, and lots, of weapons and trinkets from 1864. Giving Elena a moment to go through her family history, Stefan leaves to get the firewood. As usual, he is not paying attention. (This happens to you every week, Stefan!) Brad has recruited Tyler, and they sneak up on Stefan and put a bullet in his chest. Tyler is ordered to kill Stefan if he moves; Brad's on a mission to get Elena.

Curious as to what's taking Stefan so long, Elena goes in search for him. The door is wide open so she arms herself with a sharp object. Jumping out at her, she stabs Brady. Good job, Elena! I love her fight! She distracts him, then goes into the hidden room. His heightened wolf senses lead him straight there, but she's prepared. She drives a wooden object into his back-probably thinking he is a vampire-disabling him and giving her a chance to escape from the house. As he follows her, Stefan stops him by pulling the ultimate Damon maneuver and ripping out his heart.

Turns out Tyler had a change of heart once he learned that the pack's plan was to kill Elena. Ok, redeemed.
"That's not heroic, that's tragic."
Elijah to the rescue, again. Damon's enemies are expired one by one, with the exception of Jules who leaves at the sight of the Original (similar to Rose's exodus). “You realize this is the third time I’ve saved your life now.”

On the other side of town, Caroline is taking a drowsy Luka back home leaving Bonnie and Jeremy alone. Oh, no. I can see it coming. But, I haven't decided if I'm for this relationship now that Jeremy's matured by milestones. Well, there's no need to deliberate. Once Bonnie mentions that Jeremy is "hot," it's on. They share an extremely passionate kiss. "Wow."

Stefan and Elena are coping with the events of their getaway at the lakehouse. Stefan tells Elena that the promise she made to Elijah is futile because he is going to kill her anyways. However, this isn't news to her. While her friends have been trying to discover the truth, Elena has known all along that eventually her life will be sacrificed. This doesn't please Stefan at all. He questions her martyrdom, then abruptly pushes past her in disappointment.

"No more lies."
Tyler is in desperate need to cope with his new attribute. He leaves a farewell note for his mother, gives advice to Matt, and considers paying his dues to Caroline. After the grand loss that the lycanthrope clan suffered today, Tyler really needs some answers. So, he agrees to runaway with Jules. They pack up in her Jeep and drive off into the night.

An OMG farewell of a character so brilliantly executed by Michael Trevino.
