CW Rolls Out New Mid-Season Campaign for The Vampire Diaries: "Got Wood?" and "Catch VD"!!

Yesterday EW posted the billboards from the CW's new campaign for The Vampire Diaries. As you can see below, "Catch VD" is the slogan used. At first glance to a person not watching the show, the black billboard could be an advert for a clinic or new medicine to treat VD (venereal disease). They'd do a double take and walk right by. Those are the people they're trying to attract right? The one with an image are even worse for so many reasons. I know that VD or TVD are the usual acronyms for The Vampire Diaries and the ads are meant to be provacative, however this is tactless and insensitive marketing which the network gets...just check out the response from their spokesperson:
“VD simply stands for Vampire Diaries, and anyone who thinks otherwise should probably get themselves checked out.”

TODAY, the network has gone a step further with their new campaign. They've added the tag line "Got Wood" to a new mid-season trailer released exclusively by EW. You can check it out on their website.

I could keep going with my many opinions and rant, but I think it's clear to all of you reading that I'm not a fan of this new campaign. The Vampire Diaries is a well written and brilliantly acted television show that deserves an Emmy nod one day. Can anyone take us seriously with such ads like this?
