Q&A with Zach Roerig

Via Inspire Teen

Vampire Diaries has been getting a huge buzz with young adults, what did you expect from the audiences when first landing the role of Matt?

“I really didn’t know what to expect to be honest. Our demographic is a pretty honest bunch, so I knew that if they hated me, I would find out pretty quickly. Luckily that did not end up being the case.”

Could you tell us about your character and what his role is in the show?

“Matt is the embodiment of the all-American teenager, but with a greater deal of depth then we are used to seeing. He plays football, parties and hooks up with girls but the audience is also presented with several opportunities to see his sensitive and protective sides.”

Are you excited of all the attention you’re now getting?

“Any attention I get is the result of someone enjoying the show, which certainly makes me happy.”

What can you tell us about the new and upcoming episodes of the season?

All I can say is to stay tuned and get ready for some killer episodes!

IESB Interview with Sara Canning

Via IESB

IESB: How did you become an actor? Was it just something you always wanted to do?

Sara: There is someone who played a big part in it. When I was 12, I was in a drama class in my junior high school and I auditioned for a play. We would use our after-school time and we were putting on this production, and I just had this really awesome teacher who was into the more quirky sides of theater. He would go into the dark side of Shakespeare, and that kind of stuff. So, I think he really influenced me, just wanting to be a performer and becoming really interested in theater, and then that developed into an interest in film and television, later on.

IESB: How did you originally get involved with The Vampire Diaries? What was it about the show and this character that was appealing to you?

Sara: I actually auditioned for The Vampire Diaries back in Vancouver, in February of 2009. It's been a year since this whole process started, and it's been such a crazy journey, we can't believe a year's gone by already. I auditioned for a couple of the roles, and then I got an audition for Jenna. At first, I didn't really know what to think because the breakdown said she was much older than I am. But, as soon as I read the script, I saw that she was a very relatable character. What I found so appealing about her was that she was doing this really noble thing, in trying to be a good role model for her niece and nephew, since her sister has died, and yet she is still really young to be shouldering this big responsibility. She has very interesting flaws. She's really trying to do her best, but essentially growing up herself. It's not like she's just a parental figure. For me, it was very easy to connect with the role of Jenna, and I thought she was really cool.

IESB: Are you ever disappointed that she doesn't know that there are vampires and witches, and all of these things going on in town? Do you hope that she'll get to be more involved with the action, in the future?

Sara: I do. I would love for Jenna to find out. At this point, it's all completely up in the air. We don't even know how the first season is going to end, and it's quickly creeping up on us. But, she's spending a lot of time with Alaric, and things are becoming more and more intense within the town. It's not just vampires anymore. I would love for her to eventually find out, or have an inkling that there's something shady going on in Mystic Falls, just because I would love to see how Jenna reacts to Elena having a vampire for a boyfriend, and what parental instincts kick in versus that adventures side of herself. She's very liberal and open-minded, so I would love to see where that would take Jenna.

NY Post PopWrap Says The Vampire Diaries is the Best Show You're Not Watching!!

Via NY Post

Last night "The Vampire Diaries" returned after a month-long hiatus with one of its best episodes ever. "A Few Good Men" ticked all the boxes, and only furthered my belief that this is the best show on TV you're not watching. And my adoration only has a little bit to do with that picture above.

On the surface, "Diaries" is a spooky, supernatural thriller with whip smart dialogue and a sense of realism you don't often find in a sci-fi series. And I believe that's because creators Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec don't see their show as belonging to one genre or another. Whenever the characters approach the threshold of being too romantic, too comedic, too scary or too dramatic, the show veers quickly and precisely, like a trained drunk driver.

I agree completely and wish that more people would give the show a chance. There's so much comparison to Twilight which is getting very irritating. They've been renewed for a second season, so lets hope the ratings are steady enough to bring on a 3rd. Plus, I think March Madness had a lot to do with the dip just looking at the demographics.

Self Star: Katerina Graham

Via Self

It's official: Vampire Diaries is coming back for season two! Your show is a bona fide hit--how does that feel?

It's actually been really humbling. Being in Georgia and the small town we've been shooting in, it doesn't feel like there's a difference. I think when we go to LA or New York we feel more of the magnitude of the show, but out here in Georgia, it's definitely laid-back and we don't get that much attention.

Onscreen, there's tons of drama and tension (which we love!). What's the vibe between the cast when you're not filming?

We're all very close and we do hang out together. I always say we always hang out, but the problem is our schedules are so different, some of us don't shoot at the same times! When we do have time, we spend it with each other.

We're so glad the show's back tonight! What can we expect from Bonnie after her loss in the last episode?

Well, I don't want to give any spoilers, but I will say that she is different. I won't say whether it's good or bad. Whatever button went off when her grandmother passed has changed her tolerance with the vampires. She has to very much hold her ground in what she believes. She can come back and be a full-fledged witch and own it, or she can say I don't want to be a witch because I can die. It's really up to you guys to watch and see what happens!

You must be crazy busy filming all day. How do you stay fit and healthy?

I'm a classically trained dancer, so even if it's just jumping into a dance class to get a workout, I love that. I love the treadmill--I'm not really familiar with the other stuff in the gym. I love walking and riding bikes. But it comes down to what you eat, too. If you're eating eating junk food, it really slows you down. I try to eat healthy and light, but I also give myself what I need. If you have a sweet tooth, don't shut it off from yourself. Just eat it in moderation!

Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson Give Up More Goodies on Damon, Elena, and the Cliff Ahead!

Via Watch with Kristin

Kevin also hints that Damon may end up being a smidge more decent when all is said and done. "To watch him spiral out of control and then watch him put the pieces back together," Williamson says, "oddly enough, this may hurt so much it may just bring out some humanity in him."

Still, before you Damon-Elena shippers get too excited, Julie adds: "They go through some ups and downs. He's done some nasty stuff that she finds out coming up. She finds out something that he did that is not forgivable in any way, and it really puts a divide between them."

Review of "A Few Good Men" and Trailer for "There Goes the Neighborhood"

The anticipation was very high for this episode. It's not like we haven't had a hiatus before, so why the frenzy? Maybe it had to do with the fact that people saw it at Paley Fest. It's like being in a room full of people and everyone knows the secret but you or it could be that there's the reality of a dooming season finale that we've been assured will have more cliffhangers than the 80's soap Dallas!

So going into the episode I was convinced that the man getting hit by a truck was a main character and not some crazy messenger sent by Elena's mom Isobel and speaking of Iso....I said she and Damon knew each other prior to his late night din din. How else would he be able to enter? Mia Kirshner was classic Jenny (L Word) tonight!

It's crazy, because even with the spoilers in tow the episode still shocked and had me feeling absolutely sick to my stomach of Mr. Selfish Salvatore. I get it, Katherine hurt him and it's the ultimate betrayal! However, Damon sunk to a whole new low. I do agree with Damon that Katherine sent Isobel to him, it's just a matter of piecing everything together. I really thought poor Alaric was dead and then I remembered the first look photo of Alaric, Damon, and Jonathan Gilbert, but man was I shocked to see how he managed to get out of that bind. Stefan looked like he was going to damn near pass out and poor Alaric looked grateful and confused. Stefan said, "that's impossible!" Well clearly it is and it's going to be a non-stop roller coaster until everything comes to head and leaves us all dangling from a cliff on May 13!

Hello Julie Cooper Nichol....oops Kelly Donovan!! She was awesome and definitely worth the wait. I feel so bad for Caroline though, she's really making an attempt with Matt and someone or something always reminds her that it just may be a hopeless relationship. I wasn't expecting to see Tyler at all, but Jeremy being MIA kind of through me off. We all knew that Bonnie would be dealing with the death of Grams, but her presence was definitely missed. I think Pearl's new domain is going to be a house of secrets and answers.

I thought it was interesting that Elena asked Stefan why he was protecting Damon. They seem to ask each other that question a lot. It just shows the struggle that him and Elena have with their relationships with Damon. Also for those that missed the mysterious phone number here's the number 919-399-2507. You can listen to it via YT as well.

Well we can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that we won't have any interruptions until the dreadful summer hiatus. Next up..."There Goes the Neighborhood" Via KsiteTv

As always the post will be updated once the extended promo is available.

Ian Somerhalder Talks Pattinson and What's to Come on The Vampire Diaries!

Via Toronto Sun

“I’ve met Robert Pattinson before — he’s a nice guy,” Somerhalder said. “But I don’t know anything about (Pattinson’s character) Edward, because I’ve never seen any of the Twilight movies.

“I hear he’s a stud, though.”

We’re sure a lot of viewers would say the same thing about Somerhalder, not to mention his character on The Vampire Diaries, Damon Salvatore.

“Our fans our so enthusiastic,” said Somerhalder, 31. “The real key demographics for this show are so specific, and what we’re finding out is, in that specific age range, the amount of enthusiasm and the things they can do vocally to express that enthusiasm ... ”

So what’s going to happen when Katherine meets Elena?

“If,” Somerhalder corrected.

“I think Damon and Katherine should go on a double-date with Stefan and Elena. Yeah, (Dobrev) will be working a lot.”

As this batch of new episodes begins, the Damon-Katherine relationship — or lack thereof — is at the heart of the drama.

Stefan and Elena are very worried about Damon’s new attitude.

“You start to understand why and how the brothers became vampires, how that whole thing went down, which paints a picture of how you view Stefan and Damon, collectively and individually,” Somerhalder said.

“The events that led up to getting to Mystic Falls in the present day are not what they seem. There are a lot of paths we go down that one would have not thought of. It really illuminates this different picture of both Stefan and Damon, which is fun, because we needed a change.”

Episode 17 "Let The Right One In!" Synopsis and Title for Episode 18

CW has released the synopsis for episode 17. I'm so hoping for a Stefan "trapped in a well" scene...that would be a Vampire Diaries book reference! However, it didn't involve Damon helping, so I can only assume that there will be no rope dropping.

Via VampireSite.net

STEFAN IS FORCED TO MAKE A FRIGHTENING DECISION - When Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) make a dangerous new enemy, Stefan suddenly finds himself in a perilous situation. Damon and Elena (Nina Dobrev) try to convince Alaric (Matt Davis) to work with them to help Stefan. Matt (Zach Roerig) is hopeful that his mom, Kelly (guest star Melinda Clarke), may be back to stay. After her car breaks down in a storm, Caroline (Candice Accola) make a horrific discovery that shocks everyone in town. Steven R. McQueen also stars. Dennis Smith directed the episode with teleplay by Julie Plec and story by Brian Young (#116).).

We finally know where this photo comes from. Episode 18 it titled "Under Control". It seems that something has been resolved. It's crazy how all three of them are connected to Elena! BTW, the official Finale date for Vampire Diaries is May 13.

ATL Intel Chatted Briefly with Steven R. McQueen While Covering a Media Tasting!

Via Atlanta Magazine

Even though we're a highly skilled celeb spotter, Intel might have overlooked the quiet kid chilling at the P'cheen's bar....

The 21-year-old has spent the better part of the past year shooting episodes of the locally filmed hit CW series. He plays troubled teen Jeremy Gilbert on the show.

He told us the cast and crew are set to wrap up the first season of the series later this month and he's looking forward to returning home to Los Angeles.

He's also psyched that the show has already been picked up for another season.

"I'm just grateful to have a job," he told us.

The show's bloodsuckers will be back at work shooting season two later this summer.

Jennifer Bryan, Costume Designer for the Vampire Diaries Chats with Tube Talk and Runway Magazine!

Via Tube Talk

Who is your favorite character to dress for?
"Oh my gosh - that's like asking who is my favorite child! That's tough, it really is. It really depends on the episode. Sometimes it's Elena... I really like doing the 1864 period characters - those are great and very interesting. I like to do Bonnie because she's the funky one out of the three main girls."

You had Melinda Clarke on recently. What was it like working with her?
"She was a ton of fun! She's the cheeky mom who's a bit of a cougar. We were thrilled to have her on the show because it adds a new dimension. She comes home after neglecting her kids and tries to make amends, but she doesn't do a very good job."

Is there a chance we'll see her again at a later date?
"Yes, we will. We will definitely see her."

Where does Elena's story take her as the season progresses?
"I think you're going to get me in hot water for giving all this information! There is going to be a melding of Katherine and Elena - you can see it. How it's going to take place, I don't know. Does Katherine come to the future or does Elena go to the past? I would like to see Katherine come to the future to see how a woman with cunning 1860s sensibility deals with life in this century."

Via Runaway Magazine

Give us some insight on why you design what you do for each character on the show.
On "The Vampire Diaries" my designs and costumes for the actors are definitely driven by the character that each actors plays. The clothes shouldn't distract you but subliminally reinforce the character for both the actor and the viewer. On the practical side of what I do, I have to be aware of what's going to unfold in the episode by prepping so that the clothes are appropriate. For the character Elena, I keep her look clean and simple; jeans and a scoop neck top is something I like put her in. On the other hand, Caroline is your cheery cheerleader so I dress her in miniskirts, flats and I recently teamed up her miniskirt with patterned thigh high socks and a denim jacket.

Relate Mag Interview with Sara Canning

Via Relate Mag- *Note* In order to view full article be sure to register.

Relate: What is it about your role as Jenna that you relate to the most? What is the one thing about her that you find most difficult to understand?

Sara: I relate to Jenna because she is very young and shouldering some very heavy responsibility for the first time in her life. A few years ago, I moved out, attended school in a different Canadian province than my family’s home, and ventured into the film industry. It was tough at first, pursuing what I really wanted to do while still working at a restaurant and essentially growing up very quickly. I understand the thoughts and feelings Jenna is having, and the weight of the responsibility she now has. Jenna is becoming very efficient with micro-managing her life, which I learned to do while I was living in Vancouver.

R: What is it like working on the set of Vampire Diaries?

S: I love going to work! We shoot in such beautiful and bizarre locations in Georgia. The cast and crew have really become a family, so being on the set of The Vampire Diaries doesn’t feel like the type of job a person would want to take a vacation from.

R: What do you think has prepared you for your role as Jenna the most-your training as a skater, your experiences in Vancouver’s Film School, or your other acting roles so far? How so?

S: I learned a lot about the responsibility and discipline involved in working on a television series while attending Vancouver Film School. The program really focuses on preparing acting students for the realities of our industry. But I think people learn the most by actually doing; I’m so grateful for the different roles I’ve played over the past couple of years. They’ve all been so different, but I’ve had the privilege of playing numerous strong women. That’s really prepared me for what’s going on in Jenna’s life and the choices she has to make.

Zach Roerig Talks Vampire Diaries on KTLA

Zach is really becoming one of my favorites from the show. He seems genuinely sweet and not that far from loving Matt Donovan. I can't wait to see what happens when he finds out about Vicki. Via Spoiler TV

Watch with Kristin: Julie Plec Would Love to Have Joshua Jackson on the Show!

Via Watch with Kristin

George in New Hampshire:
Any news on Fringe or Friday Night Lights or The Vampire Diaries?

Ta-daaah! I give you all three. Vampire Diaries boss Julie Plec told me she'd love to get "Pacey" (Joshua Jackson, holler!) over to Mystic Falls--if by chance somehow his schedule happened to open up. (She worked with him on Dawson's Creek.) But curses for her and awesomeness for us Fringe fans: It got an early pickup! So Josh, for the time being, may be too busy to guest on TVD, but Julie is working on it. She also told me, "I'd love to have Taylor Kitsch or anyone from Friday Night Lights," so this girl is so after my own heart it's not even funny. Perhaps Paul and Taylor can have an ab-off for no real storyline purposes whatsoever than they "lose" their shirts? Hey, if ABC can show Bachelor Jake sudsing his abs for 10 minutes, why not TVD?

"A Few Good Men" Promo

Finally! I'll update this post when the CW one is put up.

New Still from "A Few Good Men"

Thank you CW for putting up another still for "A Few Good Men", it looks like Kelly Donovan is ready for a good time! I sure hate that she's only on the show for a few episodes, but she has other opportunities on the network.

Ian Somerhalder Interview with Buzzy Multimedia!

For the CW, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES is a huge success, earning an early pick-up for its second season. Somerhalder says he finds it interesting how different networks judge what constitutes terrific ratings. This show [VAMPIRE] has five [million viewers], so it’s significantly less, but it’s the power of the youth culture, and that’s what’s so amazing. Like the fact that VAMPIRE DIARIES won the People’s Choice Award. It’s a numbers game. The people vote. And crazy enough, they voted for our show. It’s a really active audience, and that’s the other thing. They’re active online, and this network [the CW] – they’re geniuses at online network marketing – and it’s so interactive now. We know that this is such a great way to talk with fans.” He likes what can be done with Twitter. “It’s insane. You can push a button and a hundred thousand people will get that instantly.”

Although Damon is attracted to Elena because she looks exactly like her ancestor Katherine (also played by Dobrev), there is the matter of that century-plus age difference, despite the fact that Damon doesn’t look much older than Elena. Somerhalder explains his take on the relationship. “It’s interesting if you think about it. If you were connecting to a ten-year-old on a real basic [non-sexual] human level, it’s interesting. We spend our lives in search of knowledge and money and history and art and music and film and food and travel. Damon has so much of that, and I think what’s kind of interesting and amazing is, when he really is standing there, talking to Elena, who’s seventeen years old, he finds there’s a commonality.

Orlando Magazine March 2010 Chats with Candice Accola

Candice Accola, a Lake Highland grad, plays a catty high schooler on The Vampire Diaries. By Jay Boyar

When Candice Accola is performing in a scene on The Vampire Diaries—playing high-school student Caroline Forbes—she often thinks about Orlando.

Specifically, the 22-year-old actress thinks back to the days when she was a real-life high-school student at Lake Highland Preparatory School. In fact, she says that reflecting on “the dynamics of the girls” in her old classes helps her to figure out how to play her mean-girl character on the CW television series.

“In every high school there’s going to be cliques,” Accola explains during a recent visit home from Atlanta. “Some people are a little more snarky than others. They say one thing to your face and then another thing behind your back. I’ve definitely had experiences with those kinds of girls, and now I’m playing one.”

Her character on the show is not a vampire and, in fact, doesn’t even know that vampires inhabit her town. That, among other things, may change.

“What’s exciting about Caroline is that there’s so much room for her to grow,” Accola says. “And there’s room for me to grow with her.”

TV Guide Vampire Diaries Scoop: Elena's Mom, Uncle John and the Tomb !!

TVGuide.com: How will the love triangle between Stefan (Paul Wesley), Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) evolve in these next episodes?

Williamson: One of the most important things Julie and I wanted to do this season is cement the love between Stefan and Elena. It's that love story that will be the anchor of this entire show. We have to earn that.

TVGuide.com: We'll soon be meeting Jonathan Gilbert. How does he come into play?

Williamson: Uncle John [David Anders] comes to town for one reason and then you slowly start to realize he could be there for another. He has a hidden agenda, just like everyone else in town.

Plec: He's stepping in to fill the shoes on the Founders' Council, with there being a lack of Gilberts representing the founding families. Uncle John gets in there to stir things up.

Williamson: One of the surprises is that he shows up, interestingly enough, just after that tomb is opened. How convenient.

TVGuide.com: The tomb is still open, isn't it?

Plec: Yes, and there's some good that comes out of there and there's some very, very, very bad that comes out of there.

Williamson: And there's some stuff that launches us into a whole new story line.

TVGuide.com: What should we expect in the season finale?

Plec:
What we've been building to from the beginning — it's something we took directly from the books — is this event called the Founders' Day Celebration, which is the anniversary of the founding of the town. We're looking into big period costumes and Civil War reenactments and maybe some parade action with some big floats. It's going to be the big event that connects us back to 1864 and what went down back then. It messes things up so when we come back in Season 2, everyone has a reason to tune in again. There are nine "oh my God" moments.
